Great news on the @traynor_amps #BassMate! As you know, the former owner (@agoldrules of Kathleen Edwards' band et al.) believed it was made in 1965 but wasn't 100% certain. And me, being me, I just HAVE to know (down to the month and day, if possible!) when my gear was made! So I half-assedly took the amp apart to look for dating clues, but after searching high and low I couldn't find anything conclusive. For example, the presumably Canadian-made transformers had the mfr code "EE" on them which even Google could not decipher, and the filter cap can had been replaced so no date code there either. It also looked like the speaker was connected to the chassis with a 1/4" jack, which must have been a mod (Fender was using RCA jacks in 1965 so I assumed everyone was!). Lastly, the serial number was of no help whatsoever as the only online resource I could find doesn't show any info on numbers in this format. So, in desperation (and also the desire to have other people do the work for me...), I turned to the Facebook group "The TAO of Tone" (the "T"raynor "A"mp "O"wners group, whose name, despite its potential crossover into dad-joke territory, I still find clever af 🤣), administered by @nickbeluli and containing some of the most knowledgeable Traynor amp devotees in the world. One member suggested I message Traynor's parent company Yorkville directly, and long story short (too late...sorry!) I got in touch with a man named Mike Holman who had all the historical serial number records. I am super pleased to announce that Mike was able to confirm 100% that this amp was indeed made in Q4 of 1965! I am now at peace. Many thanks to Mike at Yorkville and all the people in the TAO of Tone group who helped put my mind at rest! PS: I also found out that Traynor WAS using 1/4" jacks in 1965, so the speaker connection is original. And the transformers were made by a company called "Standard Television Products of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada and date to January 1965! We have plenty of time to talk about the cool little KEIL...but for now I just want to say the servicing job my amp tech @marshalllespaulfan did on the #Traynor is just fantastic. Amp was perfectly quiet but when you turned the reverb up even a little bit there was a buzzing noise...turned out to be a failing tube. Also, I found the rate of the vibrato way too fast so he added a capacitor in parallel, and now it's nice and sloooooowwwww, just the way I like it! This really is the PERFECT amp for me. At the volumes I play at it sounds as good as my 1961 Fender Concert, but it has reverb! Also it cost less than 1/4 the price. What's not to love?😂

Dear @traynor_amps: My amp tech @marshalllespaulfan has what appears to be a very early #BassMate 1 x 15" combo in for servicing. I have never seen one like it before and I am enchanted! I mean...just look at that logo! I have googled googled but info on vintage Traynor amps, even the common models, is sparse at best. I did find an article that said the circuit is very similar to a 5F10 Harvard, which makes me even more intrigued (The Harvard is my favourite Tweed amp), but the article didn't say anything about years of production. In my (albeit limited) experience with vintage Traynors, I have only seen later Bass Mates, whose cabinets tend to be taller and thinner, with front-mounted controls and normal Traynor badging. I can only guess by the chrome/cursive upper left mounted "Bass Mate" logo that this is pre-1969? Can you (or perhaps any other Traynor collectors out there (maybe @peter.dobson whom I know is a huge vintage Traynor fan...or maybe Skip & Jason of @vintageampspodcast whose experience is VAST?) tell me more about these models? Just got back from dropping off a load of #amps for servicing with my trusty amp tech @marshalllespaulfan, and look what I came back with!!!* 1972 @traynor_amps #StudioMate Super clean with some tasteful mods (added Presence control and more convenientlt relocated speaker jack), but original speakers. This thing sounds incredible! The 4 x 8 cab is very full and deep and the vibrato is super powerful. The reverb is right out of a Dick Dale tune. I'm going to enjoy this one!
