My poor sweet idiot kitten
He basically tried to pull a Hiccup, however, the ādragonā was not Toothless, and Hiccup he is not.
I have three cats. One is just the most relaxed, intelligent and confident cat ever despite having been a shelter rescue. Heās a very good socializer, even loves belly rubs. The other two are a mess, however. His sister is a rescue from a suspected kitten mill, and unbeknownst to anyone prior to adoption, has issues with other cats. Sheās made vast improvements, but sheās still a little rough around the edges and still has problems differentiating her āIām playingā from her āIām genuinely angry/scared and am going to murder you, BACK OFF!ā signals, and unfortunately her mixed signals messed with the boys for a while. The first one, being the clever and secure boy that he is, seems to have worked out that sheās a bit broken, and has learned when to give her wide berth and when to approach her for what seems to be her attempt at playing and socializing, tolerating her broken communication and the occasional misplaced swipe. Heās a very nurturing cat and seems to be a natural mentor, not only seemingly trying to help his traumatized sister, but also taking on the teaching role for their little brother when he first came home, despite being only 2-3 months older, grooming him and teaching him how to play and hunt.
The little brother, however. Of the three he is the only one whose history we know for sure. His mom got out before she could be spayed, and he was raised until a bit after weening by his mom and her sister among his biological siblings. Immediately after leaving his mom he came here and was taken under his brotherās wing. However, the downside to this is he had never had a negative relationship with other cats. Heās cuddly and super friendly. Like, super perky, cheerful extrovert who doesnāt understand different mindsets from his own, super friendly.
Unlike his brother, he is not that good at socializing with their broken,Ā traumatized sister. He doesnāt understand personal space. He wants to be your friend. Why arenāt you his friend? You will be his friend. Letās be friendssssss...Unfortunately, his overly friendly nature freaks out his timid sister, and the more freaked out and timid she gets, the more he wants to reassure her of his friendliness, and her difficulty with communicating doesnāt help.
So tonight the little guy, for lack of a better description, tried to pull off the bonding scene from the first HTTYD film. He parked himself a foot away from his sister. She didnāt growl, so he stuck out a paw, like
He seemed to be hoping for the above result. Unfortunately, the end result was more like
Better luck next time, Kitten.
