casting a spell to turn a million sad and miserable girls into the happy, fat and hairy men, transmascs and dykes they were always meant to be
"(Historical figure) wasn't a man, "she" was just a woman uncomfortable with patriarchal female gender roles" is the "they were just very close, good friends" of transmasculine erasure
Dear all western trans guys:
Please DO be that 'obnoxious' guy who brings up non-western trans men whenever other westerners start talking about issues of transphobia and misogyny like we don't exist.
A lot of the time, the risks for us bringing it up ourselves is much greater than that of a fellow westerner. Or we may not even be invited to the table to be able to say anything. We genuinely do need others to speak for us.
They might call you 'obnoxious' or 'reaching' but in times like that please remember that we are not a rhetorical tool
Trans men in the global south are REAL PEOPLE. Bringing us up is never 'strawmanning' or 'missing the point' or any other stupid ass excuse because we are not an imaginary 'other'.
It is always a good idea to bring up global southern trans men. And DO NOT let them make you feel guilty about it
<3
Transmasc people don't get their flowers at all when it comes to their influence on alternative fashion but they should
I've seen a lot of alt fashions emerge (and re-emerge) from spaces with a heavy transmasculine presence, with many transmasculine people inspiring and spearheading unique evolutions on DIY fashion. I genuinely think the reinvigorating of the modern scene kid would not have been possible without tmasc influence. There's a swath of young tmasc punks encouraging separation from fast fashion and teaching DIY clothing alteration. There's goths, there's emos, there's clowns, and there's creatures (oh my)
So here's some credit and acknowledgment for that, for the transmasculine people who are pushing the boundaries on alternative fashion and keeping its spirit alive in our communities, inspiring a lot of other people to participate too
Transphobes (and judgmental trans people) will include being alternative in dismissive and condescending stereotypes about tmascs, but like. That association is coming from the sincere existence of transmasculine alternative fashion culture - and actually it's insanely creative and really cool and fun that we have that. It is far from a bad thing.
You all have unimaginable swag. Don't let them shame you for that. You fucking rock

being a trans man is insane btw. youll grow up being outcasted and bullied by cis women for being different, for being a freak, for being a tranny, and even the nicer ones will often just assume that you have internalized misogyny and thats why you want to be a guy. and cis men will treat you even worse. because not only are you a "woman", youre a tranny. youre a stupid delusional little girl who she thinks a man and who needs to be fixed by an actual man. and yet people will still try to tell you you have male privilege. and youll be constantly talked over, erased, and excluded, but the moment you speak up, the moment you try to say that people need to include trans men in their trans activism, then youre a misogynist with a fragile ego who hates everything that isnt about him. its just. so fucking exhausting.
I really wish people would stop acting like the only categories transmasc people can pass in are either “indistinguishable from an average cis woman” or “indistinguishable from an average cis man”. Some of us are seen as a secret third thing (scary ambiguous t-slur gender freak who is Failing At Gender by “not looking enough like a man OR a woman”) and treated accordingly
