The Transhistorical Museum: Mapping the Field / Available at www.draw-down.com / Designed by #SamdeGroot / Since the turn of the 21st century, there has been a significant expansion in the field of #transhistorical #exhibition practiceāthat is, exhibitions in which objects from various art-historical periods and cultural contexts are put on display together. These juxtapositions are made in an effort to question traditional #museological notions like chronology, context, and category in the space of the #museum itself. Drawing on the expertise of a wide range of international museum professionals, The Transhistorical Museum: Mapping the Field considers a range of such transhistorical curatorial efforts, exploring the rationale behind these projects, the particular challenges they present and the particular rewards they can offer. This volume surveys the history and future potential of the phenomenon of the #transhistoricalmuseum. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bulln_pnQ3J/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1v0sn7c9kazd0
What do you think is the value of making these kinds of transhistorical comparisons, with this fluid historical model, for art today?

Cant wait for Cleveland Claudie to drop this shit.
My criticism that Graeberās approach is Ā»ahistoricalĀ« should be understood in this context. Of course Debt is a historical book. It is ahistorical in the sense that it proclaims a social relationship (promise) in its abstraction to be a transhistorical phenomenon, its historically distinct guises are only described, not analyzed. A break only seems to occur with money. With money, promises become transferable and impersonal.
