If you have not seen this video, PLEASE go watch it. It makes some fascinating points about how the aligned universe after tfp starts changing the definition of decepticon from meaning ‘someone who follows Megatron and his cause’ to meaning ‘bad guy’. Redemption arcs mean becoming an autobot. Being a good person means being an autobot. The society on Cybertron created after Optimus’s death is one of exclusively autobots despite never fighting the war. Along with all the bs RID season 3 tries to pull with the ‘high council’ it just makes for a steaming load of SLAG. Having recently rewatched tfp, I think the idea of killing off Optimus in the end was a bad move. I see they did it to make room for Bumblebee to have a leading position, but I think it would have been much more interesting for Optimus to go into hiding where only a liaison like Jazz or Ratchet could reach him, making his relationship with bee distant and rocky as the only instructions he sends are vague and useless. I also think Sideswipe and Grimlock should be neutrals. Strongarm gets a pass to be an autobot bc I firmly believe Jazz and Prowl are her parents and she would wear the insignia. Also the decepticons they fight in RID should be WAYYYY worse people with actual motives and personalities.

But mirage isn’t like that at *all*. Mirage is an outgoing fashionista rich boy. But than why is his power going invisible?

I think it’s actually an allegory of how the war changed bots. Mirage before the war was aristocratic, and carries a lot of that high-society leisure with him. Before the war his life was decorated. He likes being seen. He’s extroverted. But because he can go invisible, he *has* to go invisible. He *has* to be a soldier because he HAD to choose a side. His ability as a soldier completely conflicts with who he is as a person. Thats tragic. anyway he should kiss skywarp or something
