I don't have any issue with frame/skeleton combiners as a concept, but for the love of Primus, Hasbro, please stop putting the deluxes on the backs of the legs where we can't even see them. If I'm spending a lot of money (and likely time) hunting down these figures, I at least want all of my effort to actually be on display.

Transformer rambles: Combiners

Has it ever been considered that a transformer combiner could have a gender or gender coding different than the majority of their components?

I know the fact they are generally lumbering brutes is why they would generally use the “male” coding or gender-neutral, but it can also be remembered that to make the process work it seems to often have to dig deep into the psyche for shared commonalities and the result can be counter-intuitive.

I mean, Computron is everything their components are not, slow to act while the components are impulsive (Though a lot of writers miss that. All but Lightspeed and Scattorshot have only an intelligence of 6)

Bruticus is defined only by their shared sense of professionalism, warped as it may be in the case of Swindle.

Predaking, one of the deadliest Decepticons in skill is a huge leap in competence over most of their components (though most of their incompetence comes from stubbornness and fierce individuality,) who are a bunch of pretty average guys who talk big about being the best hunters.

And I think some Japanese interpretations have given the combiners more personality.

Basically, I could see it.
