When he had cut his hair, and changed his wardrobe, and changed his name, he hadn’t intended for it to feel so right. It had been intended as a disguise, so to speak. But, standing in front of the mirror, hands fumbling with the cravat, he looked at his reflection and saw someone he who had felt so familiar with, like a long-lost friend or a hazy dream that suddenly became clear again. Someone who seemed to fit in with the world around them.

He had snuck out of his family’s estate late at night, carrying with him some mismatched clothes he’d stolen from his father and younger brother, some money, a knife, a long strip of fabric, and a plan. Carefully, he made his way into the small woods where he’d used to play as a child before his mother forbade it. He tried his best to cut his hair short with the knife. It was a jagged, choppy mess but it suited his needs well enough. Then he’d taken the cloth and wrapped it around his chest before he took his assortment of clothes and styled it into a semi-decent outfit. The breeches were far too small and the shirt far too large. Nothing looked right, but it had to make him look like a man.

He was seventeen and determined to go to school. Throughout his life, his parents had made him learn such menial things as hand stitching and playing the piano when he’d really rather be out exploring or sitting in their small library and reading. Architecture had been, for the past two years, his most fervent passion. The Royal Academy in London was where he needed to go, he told himself, to learn more about it.

when Jonah first starting playing frisbee, his team was an all boys team, and both because gendering frisbee is stupid and also because transphobes were saying that he shouldn’t be on the team, he convinced the school to make the team co-ed 

his parents are super supportive of him, so he was able to start transitioning at a young age and pretty much avoid going through puberty as a “girl” which saved him a lot of trouble

I headcanon that Jonah has had to move around a lot, because of his parent’s job, and most people would hate that, but for Jonah it means that he got a fresh start after transitioning, where people would just see him as a boy right off the bat

jonah moved to town the summer before 6th grade, and that’s when the whole “cool boy” image started happening….people liked him, for the first time in a long time, and he loved it 

now, he’s afraid of losing his friends and his popularity, by coming out 

the first person he tells is Cyrus, but not on purpose…Jonah has a t-shirt with the trans pride colors on it (light pink, white and baby blue), and Cyrus, being LGBT+ recognizes it immediately, but he thinks it’s just a coincidence, until he sees the look in Jonah’s eyes when he says “hey you’re wearing the trans pride colors” lightly 

Cyrus is, ofc, instantly supportive and sort of blurts out that Buffy is a trans girl, to which Jonah is like “!!!!” and then he and Buffy become much, much closer 

At this point, Jonah also comes to the conclusion that he is bi and possibly on the aromantic spectrum 

When Jonah comes out to Andi, she gives him the biggest hug, and tells him that she loves him 

Cyrus, Buffy, and Jonah go to their first pride together, and Jonah paints the trans pride flag on his and Buffy’s cheeks, like war paint, and Cyrus wears a rainbow flag cape, and it’s Good. (Andi comes to, as an “ally”)

After awhile, Andi talks to Jonah about gender, because I headcanon that Andi is nonbinary or genderfluid or something, and also panromantic 

 The reason he started the ultimate frisbee team is because the school wouldn’t let him play on the boy's sports teams (besides basketball because there is no girl’s basketball team but he didn’t want to play basketball) and that's why he gets so defensive when someone tries to say its not a real sport.

His parents noticed early on that he felt like a boy and helped him start transitioning when he was young.

He chose the name Jonah because late grandfather was named Jonah and he had always liked the name.

Amber knew him before he started transitioning and was extremely supportive and when he started falling for her he was afraid that she wouldn’t like him because she’s straight and he was worried she wouldn’t see him as a “real” guy but she was fine with it and that’s the impression of her that has stayed with Jonah and why it’s hard for him to admit that she has faults

 He had the same fear when Cyrus came out as gay, but when Cyrus found out Jonah was trans, it didn’t change his feelings at all.

When he came out to Andi she made him another bracelet, this one in the trans pride colors.

When he came out to Buffy, she told him that if he wanted to join the basketball team she would fight anyone who tried to give him crap for it and if he wanted to play another sport on the boy’s team she would talk to the principle about it herself.  He was content with ultimate frisbee by this point, but he appreciated the gesture and her willingness to fight TJ for him.
