Today at dinner my entirely white family got onto the topic of BLM. My school has an insta account wheee students of color share racism they have faced at Ursuline. My sister (who goes there with me) said one person even spoke up about people doing blackface and pretending to be Darth Vader, and my dad said without a pause that the person who said that was lying. When we both confronted him on it, he said they need to shut up and it must have been like 50 years ago.

It happened around 2016.

When he heard that, he backtracked and said that there’s still no way, and me and my sister told him not to deny something because it seems improbable to him. He continued defending himself.

Then my sister brought up that he had said the n-word while reading a quote out loud. When we tried to explain how bad that is, even if it’s just a quote. He didn’t back down, and kept trying to justify himself. That’s not okay. It never will be.

I don’t care if he’s my dad, I will NOT back down until he listens to us and confronts his racism. Saying something racist in front of a white audience doesn’t make it any less racist. Just because you don’t say “I hate black people” doesn’t mean you aren’t racist!!!

We need to keep pressuring these people and not give up. The fight isn’t over until there is actual equality, and racism is gone.

Keep educating, keep protesting and donating (if you can), and keep learning from, listening to, and amplifying black voices. DONT GIVE UP!

Not just cishet ones! My old sign(in 3rd pic) was made of cork, worn down by rain, and not very eye catching. So I made a new one and fit even more names on it. More than 200 names, around 80 of them JUST FROM 2015. I also included those killed in recent protests on this sign.
