Here's what I want
I want a female to male transgender celebrity that people recognize. Trans people are sprouting up everywhere in the media and I love it, but as a trans guy, I canāt help but notice that most trans people in the media are trans women. Itās perfectly fine and Iām absolutely excited that trans people like Laverne Cox are being represented, but I have yet to see a trans man as popular as her.
Now, Iām not trying to say that trans women shouldnāt be represented because they absolutely should, but I feel like trans guys that havenāt come to terms quite yet with their gender could use a person in the media to look up to. It would help a lot of people realize who they are. I have no one to follow that other people would know of. I have youtubers and bloggers, but not everyone is as familiar with the internet as I am.
It frustrates me that my gender isnāt represented much.
That being said, I feel lucky knowing that there are minor trans guys in the media (Cherās son for instance) because people who donāt necessarily fall on either side of the gender spectrum are barely represented at all. Ruby Rose is the only example of a non-binary person that is clearly represented. She is a huge inspiration to many people because she is embracing something that is new to the media.
I want to see more trans men, trans women, and non-binary people in todayās media. I want trans people that cis people know about and respect. I want a trans guy in a big movie with famous actors like Johnny Depp or someone. I want a role model that I can relate to. I want a respected trans man so that other people will respect me. I want an example that I can compare myself to when Iām explaining this to people.
I want more trans men in the media.
