#TRAKTIVISTclassicâ â Every episode on #TRAKTIVISTradio, we highlight an Asian American artist/group that has significantly impacted our musical history. Whether they were front & center in the spotlight or hustled in the background, it is extremely important to respect & appreciate those who have opened up the doors & paved the road for participation & sustainable musical careers as an Asian American. â â For Episode 003, we spotlight the #MountainBrothers, a legendary hip hop group from Philadelphia, PA. The trio are considered cultural pioneers having one of the first Asian American rap groups signed to a major label (Ruffhouse/Columbia Records). Critically acclaimed albums include Self Vol 1 & Triple Crown. Although the group disbanded in 2003, Chops remains active as a film scorer, while continuing to work with clientele ranging from Kanye West and Nicki Minaj to Lil Wayne & Too Short. He is also behind the 2013 classic âStrength In Numbers,â an Asian American music project that brought together 30 different Asian American artists, including a re-union of the Mountain Brothers. â â Listen to this throwback on the re-air of TRAKTIVIST RADIO on Dash Radio + Identity Asia this Sunday 11am pst + Monday 3am pst.
