Idk if there’s any other writers on here dealing with this but the amount of bots who are dming and following me and asking to be my beta reader or to give me writing advice is so disgusting. Like any human would ever need the input of a bot to make their art

The best writing advice that has majorly improved my writing over the past year
-Show don’t tell (massive difference in my writing!! Don’t just use with description but also how you write characters and their feelings!)
-The character has to do more than react! Your plot and story feels flat because your character isn’t doing anything, they have to make active choices (example: Katniss Everdeen)
-Let your character mess up. Let their flaws get the better of them. Let them do their best with the knowledge they had and it still not be enough. Let them eff it up so bad they have to pick up the pieces and start over. Way more compelling than a character who makes little mistakes every once in a while.
-Shorter sentences don’t mean faster pace. Quick action beats are what makes things flow quickly in action scenes. Too many full stops . can actually slow down your writing.
-Give your character very strong personality traits, its way more interesting
-Really flesh out your side characters too. Give them complex relationships. Give them their own lives outside of the MC, their own dreams and goals. Plus side if it contradicts the MC’s dreams and goals sometimes.
-Do your research!! Draw from personal experience!! And write! Even if you’re never gonna post it or share it or it’s just to experiment. Get off your phone and go outside or go to public places and watch humans be humans and interact. Watch nature and how it runs its course. Take your passion and your anger and your grief out on your story, make it something lovely.
One of my all time favorite things to read in fanfics isn’t my fav ship (though that’s up there) it’s seeing people expand on a character in a way that respects them doesn’t make a caricature of them.
Like now I every time I watch my show I notice that character a little more, I feel like I know them and understand them better.
A side character who dies too early becomes one of my favorite characters ever because a fanfic author had the godlike ability to expand on their true personality in a way that resonated so much.
Sometimes writing is reaching a flow state and writing prose and scenes that could rival Shakespeare
And sometimes it’s throwing a fit at your desk because you can’t get the words to word right
