I went on two runs today instead of doing another camp tonight. My muscles are shot so I felt running out my feelings would be productive. It’s about to storm so the weather was nice this evening. At least I also went further the second time. This weekend I completed my first ultramarathon at the Calico Ghost Town 50k. 👟 It was a grueling 31+ miles across desert trails, and honestly it wasn't a run. It was a hike. This isn't something I'll do again, but I wanted to see what there was beyond traditional marathons and half-marathons. Long trail runs just aren't my cup of tea 🍵. . Along the 31 miles, I struggled across steep rocks, sand dunes, terrain with very little give, downhill sections that led to sudden falls, and lots of loneliness. My hands, elbow, knee and calf got scraped, but I managed. I wasn't going to get 10 miles in and just give up. This was totally new stuff for me, and I'm happy I finished. It just isn't something I'll do again. Give me paved roads, smooth dirt, and sidewalks! But if you love the trails - go for it!
