...A nail poked him in the back, reeling him back into the present. He couldn't help but wince, before turning his head round. All he found is a note, folded ever so neatly, and being handed out to him.
Stupid girl notes, he thought while he turned back. Didn’t even bother to take it. All the while, her knuckles kept pressing into his shoulder
Take it, she silently pleaded.
He bristled.
Like an idiot his eyes went to Mr. Hattrick — the latter’s back turned — so he snatched the note before stuffing it under the book he scribbled the doodles in. He’d read it later, but god forbid he needs another girl asking him out. He didn’t need to be thinking about other girls when his beautiful, lovely, gorgeous Lola left him.
He's chest deep in murky water for that girl...
Guys trust, I'm cooking. I say as I have to rewrite the chapter for the seventh time :'D

My favorite thing about shipping Johnny with Mandy isn't the whole "she can fix him" spiel, but rather because they'd either be the most insufferable healthy relationship or their combined insecurities would end up making them worse.

I finally was able to start writing!! I've been having such writers block for MONTHS TnT Thankfully, I think I'm cured. At least for a bit... pray for me ( ꩜ ᯅ ꩜;)
First | Next
I.
The Sweet Escape blared between the two headphones in her ears. Meanwhile, her phone is off to the side. The cords of her earbuds were a mess, but she focused on the music.
I must apologize for acting stank and treating you this way
'Cause I've been acting like sour milk all on the floor
It's your fault, you didn't shut the refrigerator
Maybe that's the reason I've been acting so cold
Her and Ted had been going through a rough patch. Again. She lay on her stomach on her bed. Her legs were up in the air flicking back and forth as she wrote in her notebook. Not a diary, or journaling, just notes for class. If anyone caught her with some diary she'd be so dead. She didn't want any of her secrets escaping to the public, not in a million years.
Regardless — back onto the topic — she distanced herself from Ted, trying to keep said distance but not make it obvious to nosy people like Beatrice. Mandy internally rolled her eyes at the mention of metal-mouth.
And I could be your favorite girl (forever), perfectly together
M + J
The initials were surrounded by a heart she drew. Her heart fluttered seeing the letters together, if only it could've been true.
And tell me, boy, now wouldn't that be sweet? (Sweet escape)
Johnny Vincent. The King of the school. A smile passed her lips despite herself. He was... cute. Her mood dampened a bit. She had everything — the looks, popularity, hell, an actual personality — but, no, he had to go for that tramp. More like a fucking slut. Not like she was much better, but she was! He deserved a girl who actually looked at him with love instead of being a fling.
They'd so rule the school together.
She closed her notebook, practically shoving it to the ground. Instead of studying like she should have. Honestly, what is it with homework, anyways? Don't they know she has cheerleading practice? She rolled onto her back, looking up at the ceiling. Her and Ted are the couple she's dreamed of, but Johnny seemed more... real.
Plucking at the cords, she yanked out her headphones. She decided to be lazy and continue pulling at the cord until she got her phone. Her plans for tonight already were close to none; brush her teeth, go to bed, and dream about Ted snuggling behind her, arms around her waist, face in her hair. The thought made her smile. Despite herself, she knew it wouldn't happen. Not at least the argument cooled down and they'd resume being a perfect couple again.
Down the halls, outside her dorm, girls talked, ranting or gossiping. Every topic, all too much information for the other girl to hear, yet, each girl lived for it. Mandy liked to talk about the dirty topics, gross and obscene. Not all the time, but when they got onto topic. Being a girl, those topics were bound to happen to get explored.
"You know, I heard Jimmy's a really dreamy kisser!" Higher pitched, giddy. Giggly. Angie was the only girl to get so giggly about boys.
"Didn't you kiss him?" The second, more whiny voice asked incredulously. Christy
"Maybe once or twice," Angie replied with that smile she always was so giggly.
Mandy looked over to the side to see the two girls entering the dorm room. Though she couldn't help but groan at their conversation. The new boy, Jimmy... or whatever his name was. Regardless, it didn't concern her.
"Oh em gee! Mandy—!" Christy started while staring at her friend, "I got some hot gossip to tell you!"
Mandy could already feel the long night seeping its way into her. The plans of nothing besides being curled up in blankets now destroyed by these girls. Whatever, Mandy thought, Let them have fun.
"Make out... with him?" Christy asked. Her expression told Mandy that she clearly wasn't expecting that out of their boy talk.
Angie let out a giggle, "Yeah, right!"
They got onto the subject of boys. How? No idea. Though Mandy threw out the idea of wondering what it'd be like to fuck Johnny Vincent. It was something she thought a few times. Okay... maybe more than a few.
"Seriously, Mandy, like, why him?" Christy asked again with a raised brow
Mandy pasued. She had to think about it. What did she like about him? "Well, he's," Charming, compassionate, willing to fight for something, even if that something is Lola Lombardi, "He's kind."
Christy snorted, "Kind? More temperamental. I heard it comes from his childhood and the fact his parents are in jail!"
Mandy rolled her eyes, normally she would've involved herself in this gossip, however, she had this heavy feeling in her gut. She didn't like it. Odd, she normally loved it. Regardless, she shrugged with a soft 'maybe.' Was she actually falling in love with a greasy monkey? She hadn't felt like this. Well... not since she first met Ted. When she started being popular queen bee. Perfectly hot, perfectly skinny, perfectly insecure. Leave those gross Bullworth boys begging for more.
The tension between the two girls continued. Angie decided to speak up, "You two would be cute!"
"At least someone, besides me, agrees," Mandy scoffed and she rolled her eyes. Of course Angie the mediator. Still, she was thankful for someone having her back with her stupid fantasies.
Christy scoffed, "Oh, come on. A Greaser? You know how bad those boys are!"
Mandy couldn't agree more. Yet, something about them lured her in. Maybe it was just them. Boys with tough attitudes and personalities to match. Especially their leader. Johnny... he was actually pretty nice. They never interacted directly, but whenever she saw him with his buddies he was there, conforting them. That boy, Ricky, especially.
Didn't his girl break up with him for his freak obsession with bikes? Mandy internally waved off the thought. She was paying too much attention to the clique.
The three talked on and on about boys, mainly Mandy trying to back herself up. Clearly both of them didn't like or support the idea. Even Angie didn't seem to agree too much. Mandy couldn't help but feel deflated, like would she not good enough for him?
"Is it worth it?" Shifting her body, she sat up, crossing her legs over themselves. She felt nervous. Restless more like.
"Like what?" Angie replied. She stayed seated on the floor with her arms on the bed. Her eyes stared at Mandy.
It made her uncomfortable, like Angie could see right through her. Mandy knew better than to assume such bullshit. No one could read her. Her thoughts were all up in her head, not in a book to hide away in when things got tough. No, she handled it all.
Mandy bit her bottom lip, considering the options in her head, "You know... trying my chance with him?"
"Isn't he with—" Christy started. Yet, Mandy interrupted her
"Yes," Mandy spat out. The disgust raised in her body like bile, "Not like he deserves her anyways!"
Angie butted in, "Wouldn't you... be like her though? Whore and all?"
Mandy rolled her eyes. She leaned back into the headboard, "Does it really matter? She cheats on him alllll— the time, why would it matter if he did?"
"At least he'd get something real—" Those words didn't mean to come out. Her face heated as she felt the two girls staring.
"Ooo, someone's jealousss—" They teased in seeming unison. Mandy's face turned pink and hot with embarrassment.
The two girls continued poking and proding. Mandy blushed, a mix of exasperation, longing, and a little, tiny, insignificant amount of hope. She wanted to be his girl. The girl he went to, not her. Lola deserved nothing besides a back hand to her face. All she did was whore around like it was her goddamn paycheck. At least Mandy got an opportunity for scholarships!
Christy leaned onto on arm, the other poking her skin with a manicured nail.
"Quit it—" Mandy shoved the other girl from poking her. She had a smile on her face, unable to let ot disappear despite it all. Getting teased about a little crush wasn't so bad.
"How do you get Mr. Bad wolf to like you?" Angie teased, wiggling her eyebrows.
Mandy scoffed, using her foot to shove Angie's arms off the bed next, "Like you should know. You kissed that new boy."
"Yeah, I saw you two," Christy agreed with a teasing hum.
"What?" Angie protested, "He's such a flirt. How could I not? He even gave me flowers!"
"Ooo... how romantic," Christy teased. Her head practically rolled with her eyes, "He probably only got that because he came out of art. All cocky cause he was trying to impress Ms. Phillips and failed."
Angie continued to protest to try and back up her claims of Jimmy being the romantic he was. Meanwhile, Mandy leaned back, thinking about it. Her hands now busy re-tying her ponytail and her mind stuck in a cloud of thoughts.
Ok, I got some Johnny x Mandy headcanons rolling around in my head because I need more content of those two directly in my veins. I've never done headcanons before but uhhhh here we go.
The first time they talked to one another was after The Rumble, his face was busted up and she asked if he was ok. Johnny was angry with himself and Mandy ended up listening to him. She let her walls down around him because it was too late at night for anyone to spot them and start gossipping, but also because she secretly had a crush on him.
They get together during the riot and secretly begin meeting up afterwards for dates. Johnny tells Lola that he's busy and needs to work on his bike, but nah he's going out with Mandy.
Mandy likes how dependent Johnny is, and doesn't mind how clingy and possessive he is. Ted only cared about Mandy because she made him look good, but with Johnny it's the other way around. Johnny needs her, and she knows it.
One time at a party they were forced into doing karaoke together, it was awkward and Johnny's friends still grill him about it.

Out of the corner of her eye, she watched him get god-smacked by some other one of his friends. The snort that left her lips made her feel so free and disgusting like a pig. Immediately after she looked away, not wanting these idiot boys to see that she was enjoying the show, even if it wasn't meant for her.
The outright brawl continued. God knows why the Prefects haven't tried to apprehend them. She guessed it was a good thing, she'd also get sent to class and probably detention for 'smoking on school property' like they all haven't done it.
Overhead the bell rang with its insistent screech. She blinked a few times. How long had she been sitting here? Behind this bus that probably had more diseases than the boys locker room? Her chest deflated with a huff as her hands braced the wall to stand up. Standing upright, her hands brushed off the back of her skirt, and shimmied to pull it down. The least she needed was to embarrass herself infront of everyone with her skirt drawn up.
The cigarette, she once had, fizzled out of life on the concrete; the flame long gone from where she stubbed it out. Her last cigarette too. Thinking about it made her even more annoyed. She decided on heading through the entrance to the parking lot instead of going through the auto shop. No thanks. She would rather die than get close to that place.
The sounds of pedaling reached her ears before she turned to see the sight of a disgruntled ginger speeding right in her direction.
Mandy jumped back, screaming after him, “What’s your problem?!”
She didn’t want to admit how her torso felt wound together, and tighter than a spring. It was too close for her liking. Way too close.
Her fingers pressed firmly into her cheeks, pulling the skin back, and trying to ease her anxiety of almost being crashed into by some stupid boy on a girls’ bike. Oh, she would’ve laughed and ran to Christy to tell her, but that meant facing the fact that she skipped. Yeah, no, she doesn’t want to do that. Still, she took a breath, easing her hands back to her sides and kept walking.
The statue of the fountain stood tall and proud. Jealousy ran down her spine. She wishes she could be like that, high and mighty over this hellscape of a school. She didn’t feel like she was at the top but what more could she possibly want? She was head cheerleader, and had the football’s team captain wrapped around her finger.
It wasn’t enough to—
As she was trying to round the fountain, her body collided with something. It was hard, and tall.
Stumbling back from the sudden contact, she blinked, vision focusing on the black leather — shiny with the sun blazing on each crease — infront of her. Oh, great! A monkey escaped from the zoo. “Watch your hands, creep!”
Johnny’s eyes glowered at her. Pathetic little bitch thinks she’s all that?
Maybe in another life.
“How ‘bout you watch where you're goin’? Or that too hard for broads like you?” Johnny could see the gears turning in her head. Despite his shitty day, this was worth it. Bitch’s like Lola deserve it.
Wait. Lola? The hell is he thinking?
His hand went out, shoving her shoulder as he slid past; movements quicker, and a little too eager to push her behind. The insults she was spitting out fell on deaf ears. Been there, done that, don’t care. He’s heard every remark in the book just cause he wears leather. Doesn’t matter, he can’t stop thinking about Lola. The fact he just thought it so casually.
“Stupid greasers and their stupid… Everything—!” Her words were quiet between clenched teeth. Her arms crossed under her chest. Now she was storming off towards the field. Of course he had to ruin her mood.
Not like it was the best to begin with…
The equipment room had air thicker than that of second-hand smoke, or was she just used to that? She had been sitting on the bench for god knows how long, waiting for Ted to show up.
After school, and before practice.
That’s what he whispered in her ear, breathless, and as hot as ever. Finally, she’d get that back — Her Ted — it made her giddy just thinking about it. No one else matters, but her and her sweet, handsome, loving boyfriend.
The door to the equipment room opened carefully, before slamming shut. Each hair on the back of her neck stood up, before she turned her head over her shoulder. A smile already there. She was on her feet before she knew it and wrapped her arms around his neck, “Teddy—babe! I missed you.”
She could already hear his reply before he said it.
“I missed me too—” His arms snaked around her waist, pulling her against him.
Mandy huffed, but that didn’t deter her smile; even when their lips crashed together. Stubborn, just like she knew how to be. Her arms loosened around his neck, instead favouring to hold his upper arms. Oh, this felt so fucking good! Months of waiting for this stupid boy to text her, finally tell her he wanted her back. Finally, finally, finally. All those months cooped up in her room where her body betrayed her after when an idiot boy brushed past just right. None of that anymore.
A breathless laugh — a wheeze more like — escaped as she pulled away. Her hands braced against his shoulders to basically hold him back, “So… like, um, please calm down…”
“Why?” He asked. His head moved forward, breaking that small personal bubble she triedto establish, “You want me to pull myself out of the game?”
“No—” She hesitated. Did she? No! …Well, maybe? “—No.”
“I’m not your opponent.” His words were final, and he smashed their lips back together.
Mandy’s eyes fluttered closed, fingers twitching over that stupid letter-men jacket.
Maybe she was.

II.
The end of her pencil hit the table top with her impatience. Mr. Hattrick is such a sick at the beginning of class. Blah blah blah... blah blah... like, does he ever shut it?
Her divided attention was quickly brought back as the teacher started a different kind of lecture.
"Mr. Vincent, you are tardy—!" The teacher began listing things off about punctuality.
She blinked, eyes carefully going towards the figure heading her way. If she weren't in public — more like in the privacy of her room — she totally would've squealed with a load of excitement.
Yet, his eyes stayed on her, face in that familiar scowl. She looked away, not wanting to stare at him too long. He had a temper, and she wasn't keen on disturbing any peace they had during this class. Even with all this staring, the feeling of insecurity clawed at her chest even more than usual. His eyes felt like they were digging into her. To keep her pride, her elbows rested on the table as she started doodling random things on her page.
Mr. Hattrick continued his tangent.
Yet, his eyes were on her.
... Until he sat down in his assigned seat. Right in front of her.
She let out the breath she forgot she was holding, slow, calm, cool. She had to seem in control, cause she was. She was queen bee. Yet, this little greaseball had her more nervous than the jocks did on a bad day.
'Real slick Mandy.' Be queen bee and can't act cool in front of some grease monkey? Pft- What a joke she was.
———
This wasn't where she wanted to be anymore. His body turned around in his chair. They were paired to go over the next assignment for whatever reason. She didn't bother to listen and pay attention to the back of his head instead. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
Why did she have to be so dumb?
A pencil pointing beside a group of numbers caught her attention. The poor thing was chewed and looked to be on its last limb
"You have to put the symbol there. Makes the equation equal."
She paused her writing to look up with a raised brow. He took a breath before sighing, "Here..."
His elbow leaned against the top of the desk, turning her paper to make it easier for him to write. He erased her work, leaving her annoyed. Yet, he re-wrote it in quick succession. Her eyes went across his face, his face scrunched in concentration. Certainly a good look on him. No, stop it. She forced herself to watch what he was doing.
Turning the paper back towards her, he attempted to draw a circle around the answer. Unfortunately for him, it looked more like a shaky oval than anything "There."
Mandy looked it over. Truth be told she had no idea what the answer was supposed to be. Mr. Hattrick sold answer sheets for a reason. Her body leaned forward, elbows resting against the hard desk. It was a subtle attempt to get closer, to flirt the only way she knew how, "Didn't know Greasers were good at math."
"Have to be," He shrugged before turning back to his sheet again.
She frowned, tough crowd. She fiddled with her pencil, biting at the right corner of her lip.
"Well, if you're so smart—" Her face turned subtly away, as if to think. Already, she knew this was stupid. It was worth a shot... or so she hoped, "Would you, uh, consider tutoring me sometime?"
A beat of silence. "Huh?"
For God's sake of course he didn't hear...
"Nothing," She hummed politely and went back to work. Her mood turned from giddy to annoyed and utterly defeated. She ruined her chance like an idiot. Groaning internally, she thought of metal-mouth. Beatrice is rubbing her dorkness all over her. Ugh.
Thankfully, he didn't press. Just continued with his work. At least he could focus. The end of her pencil rested against her cheek. Watching him write and her face grimaced, he sure was bad at writing something as simple as numbers. Solving word problems and writing out the answer... yikes-
—Wait they had word problems?
She immediately looked at her page and groaned out loud this time. Hearing a chuckle from in front of her, she gave Johnny a bit of a face instead.
"What? Can't do math sweetheart?"
Sweetheart... Oh god. Her heart felt like it was beating out of her chest as she stared ahead at him. Her face began to get hotter. That stupid smirk on his face made it worse.
Collecting her bearings, she scoffed, "Just fine, grease monkey."
Her eyes watched his expression barely falter. Easily annoyed but he... didn't say anything. Huh... Now she thought about it, he did look tired. Late night maybe? Why was she caring? No, she didn't need to care.
Her teeth gnawed at the inside of her cheek. Meanwhile, her pencil continued to write. God knows if she did anything right, not like she ever listened.

From: Teddy
Back room after skl
Ted finally texted her. Well, technically that morning. Vague, but she knew what he meant. The back room was the equipment room down at the football field. Her body felt giddy at the idea of finally getting back together. She missed his arms around her, the kisses — even if they hardly came by — and terribly good make-out sessions. A girl's dream at this crappy school.
She stood beside her bed, fingers fumbling around behind her back to get her bra clasped together, but by god was it difficult as always. Mumbling curses under her breath seemed to make it clip faster, thankfully. Her thumbs pressed under the fabric of the straps before pulling them up to sit properly on top of her shoulders without the awful pinching of skin and bones.
Slipping on her uniform, she had to shimmy into it due to how tight it got over her chest and hips. A sick feeling pooled in her gut as her hands yanked her clothes down. The feeling continued pooling like a disgusting mess and she's—
Not wanting to finish that though she quickly exited her room. Now speed walking towards the bathroom.
It kept boiling, stirring like boiling water, and it's ready to spill.
She barely made it in time to the stall, her knees buckling in front of the toilet. Already coughing, spitting anything remaining in her mouth, gagging a bit, before another wave of nausea hit her. Her breathing was heavy, and she could already smell it. Forearms rested against the seat and her forehead rested against them as well. She continued to breathe hard. Eyes blinked away tears and spit dripping from her lips.
Shakily she stands, hands gripping on any part of the stall that she could. A newborn baby dear. She wipes her mouth with the back of her hand and stumbles her way over to the sink. Her eyes don't dare look in the mirror. She's fat and ugly. She already knows the grotesque image she'll see staring back at her.
The cleanup went by quickly. Mandy, barely able to focus on her surroundings, went through the routine. Cupping her hand under the water she put it up to her lips, she drank it, using it as mouthwash until she could get some gum, or god forbid brush her teeth.
She spat out the water and let it drain down the sink before turning on the tap to fully flush it down and away from her sight.
Mrs. Peabody is going to scold her for being late. She could hear her voice now—
"Oh my god... Mandy?"
Not the correct voice in mind but it's a voice.
"Yeah?" She responds, voice cracking despite the water that should've helped to moisturize it.
A hand went between her shoulder blades. Mandy's head tilted up and she saw the other girl in the reflection. Christy. The redhead's been here for her since their freshman year. Then Angie came along. After that, it all became a cluster of Mandy and all of the girls hanging out. Besides her and Lola.
Besides her.
The hand rubbed in familiar circular motions on her neck, bringing her out of her thoughts. Those nails lightly scratching at the baby hairs that escaped her ponytail. Every time Christy caught her when she fell into this habit, it seemed like her touch could pull her away for just a moment and just... be.
Christy decided to break the silence between the two of them, "We should go to class."
Mandy hummed in response. She didn't want to, but she should.
———
She ended up not going to classes despite telling Christy she would. Not like she'd ever know. For morning classes, she snuck back into her dorm and slept for a few more hours. Thankfully ridding the headache that was from her early puking session. Eventually, she had to get up, present herself as perfect for everyone else to be jealous of. Still, she had afternoon classes, which she did not want to attend. A smoke break was more than needed right now.
Sitting in the parking lot that's what she did. Right at the end of that shady bus that supposedly is housing a hobo. Regardless, the cars from the teachers and Prefects hid her just right. She didn't want, nor needed to be caught, especially right now.
Over to her right from hearing alone, it got blasted with yelling and jeering. Turning her head, leather jackets meet her eyes. Of course, the Greasers had to be out. Seemed like they were doing some brawl from the way they were gaining up against one another.
'Boys.' That's the only thought that went through her head. She rolled her eyes and looked back down.
"Damn baby. You come here often?" A voice picked up from behind the open gate.
She looked up once again before scoffing. Some Greaser cat-calling her. How typical. She knew she was hot stuff, but these freaks were annoying.
Out of the corner of her eye, she watched him get god-smacked by his friends.
