Whenever I get a visitor to Cambridge, the most essential item on the agenda is always a trip to Toscaninis. Voted “Best in Boston”, Tosci’s is famous for it’s B3 ice-cream: Brown Sugar, Brown Butter and Brownie. It’s a delicious ice-cream and one of my favorite flavors, a combination of chewy and sweet and salty and really everything one wants in an ice-cream that’s already thick and creamy. But because of the B3 hegemony, I feel like Tosci’s best kept secret is actually it’s transformative Earl Grey ice cream. You will never find another ice cream like this one. It’s subtle, it’s not overly sweet and it’s fragrant - infused with the most delicate, flowery fragrance that transports you into a quiet tea room with white walls and high ceilings and golden chandeliers. All this wonderfulness comes in chewy, milky, sweet, cold ice-cream form, and makes you forget that there is such thing as an ice-cream that’s not tea flavored. There are some things worth travelling to Central Square for (alright, there are actually a lot of things). This is one of them.
