#tortoise beans

My pack of Economy Rice (菜饭) came later than usual as mum got her hair done at the hairdresser. From the left, French beans stir-fry with pork bellies & black fungus, eggplant 🍆 stew and lastly, sweet & sour pork. French Beans (四季豆) also known as Green Beans has a cute name in Hokkien - Tortoise Beans (乌龟豆). Not sure where the tortoise side of the beans come from, but my colleague said people used to feed their pet tortoises 🐢 with it hence the name stuck.
