Ramjong is the country's second largest city and the country's former capital. Founded in the 10th century by Prince Hosui Mongh, the city continued to serve as the country's de facto cultural capital after the capital was moved to Toriyang in 1800. The city is famous for its defensive walls, gates and numerous historical monuments, including imperial palaces from the 12th and 15th centuries
