Develop an #intuitiveconnection between the #bowhair and the #violinstring by consciously switching between sounding or #contactpoint with this “5 lane” #tonepractice Two videos: 1) “Lane” 5 - just at the edge of the fingerboard. Play with a light, fast bow and do your best to stay way out near the fingerboard. This will feel weird if you’re not used to it! “Lane” 4 - about 1 cm away from the fingerboard. Bow is still relatively fast and light compared to usual playing. “Lane” 3 - Halfway between the bridge and the end of the fingerboard. This will feel more normal as much playing is done here. Weight will increase noticeably from lanes 4 and 5. “Lane” 2 - 1cm away from bridge. Sometimes known as the #kreisler highway (coined by #fritzkreisler ), this is where most playing is done and will feel the most normal of all the lanes. Weight is significantly increased from lanes 4 and 5 “Lane” 1 - Next to the bridge. Use a much slower bow than you would in whatever passage you’re practicing. “Coax” the string with less weight than lane 2. 2) Performance version - Play the sound you hear. You will feel a much more natural, easy and intuitive connection with the tone! Note: Lanes will “squish” together toward the bridge in higher positions. For example, in 5th position, lane 5 will likely be where lane 3 is in 1st position. Lanes spread slightly on lower strings. For example, on the G string lane 1 will not be exactly next to the bridge and lane 5 will be slightly over the fingerboard. #violinteacher #vivaldiconcerto #violinconcerto #concertoingminor #suzukiviolinmethod #suzukiviolinteacher #suzukibook5 #violinpractice #violintechnique #violinpedagogy #stringplayer #orchestraplayers #antoniovivaldi #antoniovivaldi🎻 #vivavivaldi #beautifulviolin #beautifulmusic #violinsolo (at Washington D.C.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CYt65AcA07G/?utm_medium=tumblr
