Having flown on dragonback, Rhaenys had not had the chance to bring any of her own maids with her. The ones the Queen has provided are efficient enough and do their job well, but when it comes to her hair the princess is particularly picky about how she likes it done. After a few failed tries-not the girl's fault, truly, she is not used to styling in such a manner-Rhaenys had dismissed her from that particular duty and taken to doing her hair herself.

This morning she sits looking into Violet's vanity mirror after a night spent in the dowager's company at Bridgerton House. She is running a comb through her long silver hair and humming softly to herself when Violet surprises her by plucking the comb from her fingers. Rhaenys raises a brow at the other woman's reflection as she wordlessly takes over the task.

𝐤𝐚𝐭𝐞'𝐬 body tensed for a brief moment at the thought of handing edmund over. it had nothing to do with violet, of course. if there were anyone outside of her own family she'd trust with her son, it'd be her mother in law. and even if they weren't related, violet was someone kate always held deep respect for. she raised eight children in a home of love and laughter. not everyone in the ton could say that. but they'd just spent months away in india, and kate's motherly instinct to p r o t e c t was still at its highest.

“Please.” Colin looked up from where he had very clearly followed Violet into the room with all the persistence of a man on a mission and absolutely none of the dignity. “Please,” he repeated, softer this time, though somehow no less insistent. “Just... hear me out before you dismiss me entirely, because I do think you are being terribly unfair to me in this moment, and I would like that noted for the record.” There was a beat in which he drew himself up as though he were about to deliver a speech in Parliament rather than beg his mother for a dog.

“It would not simply be a hound,” he said. “It would be our hound. A family hound. A noble creature of excellent character and sound judgment, who would no doubt improve the entire household.”
