Too Late
Ship: AlphaxKirb/Zetto (romance), surprise one (not telling for suspense reasons, platonic)
Alpha sat in the park of Mechcity, waiting on someone. Â Looking over, he saw just who he was looking for. Â The other wasnât very tall, but he always stood out. Â He waved, and he came over.
âHey, Kirb! I havenât seen you in a while, you ok?â Kirb gave a weak smile and sat down next to him.
âYea... I just stayed up late, Iâve been busy with stuff, you know...â He looked up at the sky. Â âSo... I, uh... heard you guys really stayed in the game after it shut down. Iâm surprised you never got caught.â
Alpha laughed, âYea, I am, too.  I, well... we, ran into Zetto and Kizuna... it didnât end well for us... I guess you were right, I shouldnât have gone up there.  You seem to be right about a lot of things.â
âYep, I know. Iâm just good like that,â he smiled at the other, âSo... uh... we cool again?â
Alpha nodded, âYea, weâre cool.â He grinned back.  He always had a soft spot for the player.  All he wanted to do was have fun, and even though sometimes he didnât want to brawl, it was a good excuse to let off some steam.  Kirbopher was a little more than a friend, though.  But he couldnât tell him that... he didnât have the guts.
Kirbopher looked back at the other, he was thankful for being able to talk to Alpha again. Â He felt bad for keeping secrets from him, and even though he still hadnât told him his secret, but that was not what he was focusing on. Â He liked the fighter, a little more than just a friend, but he couldnât tell him that. Â He liked Flamegirl, and he wasnât going to interfere with that.
They both sat quiet for a bit, then realizing they were both staring at each other, so they looked away, slight blush on their cheeks. Â Kirb turned, and saw the slight reddend face on Alpha and smiled more. Â Maybe he should tell him?
âHey, um... Alpha?â The other turned to see a slightly nervous and flush Kirbopher. Â Wait... did he like him, too?
âYea, Kirb?â the swordsman was about to say something when there was a loud explosion near where they were. Â The sky turned dark, and both players got up and looked around. Â What in the world? Hadnât everything been resolved?
There was static noises, as a familiar figure showed his face. Â âWhy... why did he...â Kirbâs eyes widened. Â In a last ditch effort to survive, the Forbidden Power latched itself onto a player, a player he knew was going through hell when he logged out before the shut down. Â Rockoon.
He brought out one of his bombs, âWhy did he not tell me!!â He threw the bomb, and before Alpha could react, he was pushed away from the blast and rolled away.
Alphaâs ears rang as he got up slowly, not sure what had just happened. Â âKirb...?â He got to his knees, hearing sobbing nearby a tree. He walked over and saw what was happening.
Rockoon, back to his senses, was on his knees, sobbing, Kirbopher was motionless near the tree. Â Alpha ran over to the other and lifted him up gently.
âKirb! Are you ok?â Kirbopher opened his eyes, and smiled weakly.
âItâs just a scratch...â he sounded weak, and Alpha was struggling to keep a smile on his face. Â âDonât look like that... You arenât the one that *cough* got caught in the blast and... hit the tree...â
âYouâll be ok, though... right?â Kirb smiled, nodding.
âIf I can move to take off my helmet... Iâll be fine... I think. Â Itâs just in-game damage, nothing I havenât felt before...â Â Alpha looked to him in confusion.
âYou mean when I attacked you?â Kirb chuckled and shook his head. Â âThen, when?â
âIt cut off my arm in game...â Alpha almost forgot to breathe. Â He knew who that was, and he felt his eyes turn hot. Â âI wanted to tell you... I really did... but-â He stopped as Alpha kissed him, his eyes filled with tears.
âThatâs the second time youâve saved my life...â Kirb smiled as Alpha said that. Â âI wish I could help you.â
âIâll try to log out and go to the hospital... you go help out Rodent boy over there... heâs missing the slimy guy... he needs a friend right now.â Alpha put him down and went over to the hacker. Â Shortly after, Kirb logged out.
A few days later, Alpha was hanging out with Flamegirl, Nylocke, and Gamecrazed, when he noticed a small maroon colored cat with yellow eyes. Â Curious, he went over to it, and the cat transformed into Kizuna. Â âWhat is it?â
She looked up to him, and Alpha could see a sadness in her eyes.  âYour friend... Kirbopher. Iâve known him in real life for a long time.  He told me to tell you something.â  She closed her eyes. âTell him Iâm sorry... Tell him I wish him all the best... And that Iâm sorry I was too lateâ A tear fell down her face.  âWe found him in his office, trying to call for help. His spine was broken... and he was bleeding internally.  We rushed him to the hospital, but the doctors couldnât fix him.â Alpha was in shock, watching as this usually composed player break down before him.  âHe died two hours ago.  His last words were tell Alpha I love him.â
Alpha put his hands over his mouth as tears ran down his face. Â He fell to his knees and wailed, crying as sadness and grief washed over him. Â His friends hugged him, trying to comfort him. Â âHeâs gone... Itâs too late... Heâs gone for good... and I loved him...â
(Yes, the surprise ship mention is my BroTP of Doubling and Rockoon)
