A Witchâs first Halloween
In the mage headquarters in Mt Elbert, Colorado to young women were preparing for their first Halloween as a couple. After a long time of trying to figure out the best costume they eventually decided to leave the decision to the only one of them who had actually celebrated Halloween in the past, this was a decision the other was beginning to question the wisdom of.
âThis is by far the strangest thing youâve insisted I do,â the mage said as the smoke cleared around her and revealed her magically crafted Supergirl outfit.
The young superhero adjusted her own wide-brimmed black hat in the mirror as she explained, âItâll be fun, trust me. Lord Hamley never let you celebrate Halloween before so weâre doing it now.â
âIâve celebrated Halloween before.â Mary ran her hands through her hair casting an illusion to turn her black hair blonde.
âGoing to a party consisting solely of members of The Court doesnât count as celebrating anythingâŚever,â Jen explained looking closer at her green face to make sure the makeup was even.
âYouâve never seen Lady Hartje intoxicated,â Mary countered as she approached Jen and rested her hands on the superheroâs shoulders. âRemind me again why youâre dressed as a witch and Iâm a hero.â
âBecause itâs Halloween and on Halloween you dress like the opposite of what you are and do things differently.â
âSo why arenât you a super villain and I this âWicked Witch?ââ
âBecause itâs funnier for the hero to be the witch and the witch to be the hero. That, and Iâm already green, this stuff isnât coming off anytime soonâŚI may have just dyed my skin by accident.â
Mary shook her head at her girlfriendâs ridiculous behavior. She was strange, but at least she was happy, and if Mary had to go around asking for candy from people to help her girlfriend enjoy the holiday then she was willing to do that.
âOkay,â Jen said at last as she practically sprang from her chair. âIâm ready, how do I look?â she asked with a spin.
Mary looked her up and down, she was a near exact copy of the character Jen had shown her, only missing one detail. âDonât you need a broom?â she asked.
Jenâs eyes widened, âShit, I forgot the broom, how did I forget the broom?â
Mary smiled, Jen was always cutest when she worried about the tiniest details. âDonât worry about it,â she said calmly, âI got this.â She clapped her hands and created a cloud of smoke from which she was able to pull an old fashioned broom from. Will this work?â
Jennifer grinned from ear to ear, âYes. Thank you so much.â She kissed Mary on the cheek leaving a faint green lipstick print. âI always forget you guys can do stuff like that.â
âDidnât you just see me do that with my clothes?â
Jen thought for a moment, âOh yeah.â Mary shook her head with another smile as Jen threw on leg over the broom and used her telekinesis to lift herself off of the ground. She let out what was suppose to be a cackle, but since Jen kept it quiet it sounded more like a snicker. âIâll get you my pretty,â she said as if testing the line.
âWhat?â Mary recognized this as one of Jenâs many references, but since she had never really focused on the non magic society before meeting Jennifer, most of these references went over her head.
âItâs from Wizard of Oz,â Jen provided knowing that she hadnât seen the movie. âItâs where who Iâm dressed as is fromâŚWeâll watch it later. Right now itâs candy time.â She flew through the door and into the hall doing her strange half cackle again, this time with a bit more confidence. Mary began to jog after her.
Halfway down the hall they ran into a demonic figure blocking their way, it stood in the middle of the hall and was bright red with a long tail and wings spread wide, its long red hair was tied in a ponytail. The figure turned around to face them revealing two red horns sticking out of its forehead. Mary immediately recognized the figure as Mimsi Malore in an over the top costume by her aura.
âHey, where are you two going?â she asked eyeing the costumes. âAre you skipping the âpartyâ this year too?â
âYeah,â Jen answered excitedly, âIâm taking Mary trick-or-treating.â
Mimsi looked at her in confusion as Mary simply shrugged to say she was just going along with things at this point. The mage then sat on the back of the broom as Jennifer squeezed them past Mimsiâs prosthetic wing. âIâd love to stay and chat,â Jen explained, âbut the longer we stay the less candy weâll be able to get, tell Tom I said âHappy Halloween.ââ The young duo reached the exit to the circular hallway and disappeared to find their way out of the mage base to hunt for candy.
A moment later Tom Zerlan appeared in the hall out of his and Mimsiâs room dressed as a six-winged angel in white robes and extra mouths drawn on his face, his costume combined with his six foot height would have made him intimidating if Mimsi hadnât fought monsters twice his size. âDid I just hear Jen leave?â he asked.
âYeah, she said Happy Halloween and she was taking Mary trick-or-treating? Whatever that is.â
âArenât they too old for that?â
âI donât know, I was raised by The Mage Court, we barely even recognize the holiday, it was your idea to go to this other party.â
âHey, youâll have fun.â
âIf thereâs vodka I will. The Court wonât allow it at their parties after Lady HartjeâsâŚincident.â
