Booker T. and the M.G.'s achieved a certain amount of fame with all of their works, so many called them to get some legitimacy. Some of these wouldn't need to, such as The Blues Brothers. You see, the latter are basically a comedy outfit, but this shouldn't suggest anything pejorative. No, you can notice an incredible respect both Aykroyd and Belushi have towards the style of music they play. Sure, they put their own humourous bent on the enterprise, you can hear that on the link that contains a 'cover' of a famous theme song, yet the fact they called Mr. Cropper and Mr. Dunn to join them suggests they wanted to go beyond the laughs, they wished to do something much more real than many would've assumed from their background.
Today's antivaxers of the day are the jazz cats from this painting by the bluecat

Lou Reed - New Sensations
Stanley Clarke: School Days (1976)
Stanley Clarkeās fourth album as a leader, School Days, isĀ another case of āa fusion too farā for this rock fan; I canāt put my finger on anything truly wrong with it, but neither do I hear something spectacularly right -- for me.
That being said, this cat can really slap da bass.
In fact, on the opening tile trackās extended mid-section, Clarke slaps it like a beeotch, but he also firmly holds down the funk at both ends of the song while guitarist Ray Gomez burns up his fretboard.
On āQuiet Afternoon,ā Stanley leisurely duels with E Street Band escapee David Sancious, and onĀ āThe Dancerā he weaves a Brazilian melody and samba beat behind a copacetic synth part that strangely reminds me of a Frank Zappa tune (donāt ask me which).
Coincidentally, longtime Zappa sideman George Duke plays keys on the standout āLife is Just a Game,ā which sizzles like nothing else on this LP, thanks to Billy Cobhamās wonāt-be-ignored aggression, and another red hot guitarist, improbably named Icarus Johnson.
Backtracking a bit, thereās a dreamy meditation calledĀ āDesert Songā featuring John McLaughlin on acoustic guitar (!), and a petit disco exercise namedĀ āHot Fun,ā where Clarke bubbles like itās bath time.
So, while Iām not quite ready to revise my initial verdict, I will say upon further reflection that School Days has at least one performance I wonāt likely forget in āLife is Just a Game.āĀ
