⁣ Canon EOS 250D | 24mm | 1/250s | f/4.5 | ISO 100⁣ Taken on 19/09/2020.⁣ ⁣ Sheltering on the seaward side of the mountains that divide Piemonte from the coast, Liguria is the classic introduction to Italy for travellers journeying overland through France.⁣ ⁣ There’s an unexpected change as you cross the border: the Italian Riviera, as Liguria’s commercially developed strip of coast is known, has more variety of landscape and architecture than its French counterpart, and is generally less frenetic.⁣ ⁣ And if you want to escape the crowds, the mountains, draped with terraced vineyards and olive groves and speckled with pretty old villages, offer respite from the standard format of beach, beach and more beach.⁣ ⁣ The beauty of Liguria for me is the fact that it's dotted with amazing ancient villages that can be reached by bus from the coastal towns: from Borgio Verezzi to Verezzi, Finale Ligure to Finalborgo, Arma di Taggia to Taggia, and Borghetto Santo Spirito or Loano to Toirano.⁣ ⁣ All these medieval gems are just a stone's throw and each has its own peculiarity. Strolling through the cobbled streets and silent squares in Toirano's historic centre was like stepping back in time, which is for me was far more memorable than spending time at the seafront. Holidays are meant for getting away from the stress and drudgery of everyday life, and Toirano is definitely the right remedy for that.⁣ ⁣ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲:⁣ ⁣ Take a bus from Borghetto Santo Spirito station or from the bus stop at the corner of the roundabout next to 'via Simone Stella' in Loano.
