When it comes to board books for wee ones, right up there with the hilarity of Sandra Boynton, for me, are the brightly coloured books produced by author-illustrator Todd Parr. Along with some wonderful books addressing family, feelings, and other important topics, I think my absolute favourites are Parr's whimsical forays into flat-out silliness, like "Underwear Do's and Don'ts" (1999). With his trademark childlike artwork, all primary colours, stick figures, and bold black outlines, Parr takes us through a series of ridiculously silly "rules" about what to do with underwear that will have kids and adults alike in fits of giggles. Prompt Eight - #picturebooks
Ever since discovering Todd Parr’s picture books on my second-year placement, I have always tried to include them in my teaching and lessons. All his books are beautifully written and illustrated with strong moral messages and bright colours. I was absolutely excited to hear Parr’s news of releasing a new book about making mistakes. The picture book would be an amazing resource to use in teaching younger students about the importance of making and learning from mistakes.
Prompt 8 - #picturebooks
I was sitting on my bed, searching for #picturebooks on Tumblr, I came across a plethora of old, new and upcoming #picturebooks all appeared. I was pondering at the extensive amount of #picturebooks that existed in todays’ world. Within the search, I saw a plethora of #picturebooks that I haven’t read before but looked interesting. I did some research on some of the #picturebooks that caught my eyes and many of them looked very interesting that I could use these #picturebooks in my future teachings in schools. Many of the reviews came from their personal books that they have written or read and they wrote a review about the book. I came across a #picturebooks that dated back before I was born. I saw #picturebooks that were very familiar such like the Dr. Suess series, Todd Parr series and other #picturebooks that I remember that I saw throughout my placement.
Overall, the first thing thing that captured my eyes was the colourful Dr. Suess book that is called ‘Oh, the Places You’ll go’. This #picturebook is colourful and the illustration is unique. this #picturebook delves into how the protagonist explores and visits places through discovering new places around his town.
