Gloriana Post
The post production of Gloriana went very well indeed.
It was great to work with Mark on the mix. We started with our template we used for the live to cinema and fined tuned it, before automating the microphones of the singers. Really pleased with the result!
The DVD should hopefully be out in November.

God, Händel can be such a rip-off. The coloaratura at about 1 minute onwards is almost exactly the one on "Se il veleno pria non spande" from Sextus's "L'angue offeso" in JC.
Where congeal’d the northern streams (Hercules) HYLLUS
Where congeal’d the northern streams bound in icy fetters stand, where the sun’s intenser beams scorch the burning Libyan sand, by honour, love and duty led, there with daring steps I'll tread.
Producing Gloriana at the Royal Opera House
Britten's Gloriana wasn't well received back in 1953 when this newly composed opera was premiered in honour of the coronation of Queen Elisabeth II.
60 years later the new production of Richard Jones will bring a new light and, I'm sure, the success it deserves.
The idea of the set being a village hall in 1953, with it's own stage and wings, works extremely well for what is a complicated score and arguably not Britten's best opera. All the scene changes are seen as if through a transparent curtain and the staff in the wings never distract from the crucial moments in the opera.
The singing is superb with Susan Bullock as Queen Elisabeth I and Toby Spence as Essex. Paul Daniel conducts an orchestra in top form.
The first filmed night and the radio record went really well. Tonight is the big night with the second filmed evening, transmitted live to cinemas.
Let's go and make it happen! :)
