Organized by the Baekje Cultural Festival Organizing Committee, the 65th Baekje Cultural Festival in Buyeo was held from September 28 to October 6, 2019.

Unlike other festivals that I've been to, the Baekje Cultural Festival is one of a kind. A lot of various activities happened such as Korean traditional wrestling, cultural and historical parade, a re-enactment of Baekje era market place operations, kite-making, lanterns, hot air balloon experience, night club, competitions, fireworks, and a lot more!

Hot Air Balloon experience for me was a one-of-a-kind festival experience. For only KRW 10,000, we got to float in the air for 10 mins or so. :)

When we stayed at the Buyeo Giwa Village, we did activities for free because these are all included in the accommodation fee. :) 

In our case, we did natural soap making, rice-cake making, and biking.

1. Rice-cake Making Experience

Unlike other Injeolmi, this is made from mung beans that’s why it’s yellow!

What’s interesting is that we used plates instead of knife in cutting the rice cake. They said using a plate is easier than using a knife.

2. Soap Making Experience

Materials for this activity were soap base, glycerin, scent, oil, flower powder (Rose, lavender, Rice), and ethanol.

First was melt the soap base. Second, put glycerin on a paper cup enough just to cover the base. Third, put the rice powder and choose from either rose or lavender powder.  Mix well. Fourth, pour three droplets of oil. Fifth, pour the melted soap base. Then, pour three droplets of scent. Finally, pour the concoction on your soap mold.

Wait for at least an hour for the soap to harden.

Our teacher told us that unlike the factory produced soap, our soap easily melts in water because all the ingredients were natural.

3. Bike Ride

Tandem bikes, solo, and kiddie bikes are available. I went for an early morning bike ride. It was peaceful and calming because the village is surrounded by green fields. :)

The Buyeo Giwa Village is located at 1027-1 Jeongdong-ri, Buyeo-eub, Buyeo-gun, Chuncheongnam-do.

From Buyeo Intercity Bus Station, we took a taxi and paid less than KRW 10,000 to get to the village.

We stayed in Sarang-Gwan. (Photo below)

For only KRW 60,000 a night, 4 up to 7 people can stay here.

This room has a kitchen, one bathroom, one huge space which was like a living room and bedroom.

The people in the village are so warm, friendly and helpful. The air was so fresh, and the village is surrounded by green fields.

Sharing our 2 days 1-night itinerary (with Expenses) in Buyeo, Chungcheonnam-do, South Korea trip.

Jeungdo is an island, like Imjado, in South Jeolla Province, South Korea. You can take a taxi from Jeomam Dock going to Jeungdo Island. It’s popular for its salt minerals and salt farms. 

Here are my recommended activities to try when in Jeungdo. 

1. Visit Taepyung Salt Farm 

This salt farm is a good spot for a photoshoot. :)

You can also try raking/farming salt (I’m not sure how this one’s called).

2. Learn more about salt minerals in the Salt Museum

3. Eat interesting salt ice cream flavors. Highly recommended: Mara Ice Cream!)

This is the Mara/Mala ice cream. It’s spicy/chili flavored salt ice cream. A must try because it’s something new to the taste buds~

4. Eat at Salt Cafe (feat. Salt Cafe Latte)

5. Relax at the Salt & Body (Salt Cave)

For only KRW 10,000, you can try the Salt Cave in the Salt & Body spa center.

Imjado or Imja Island is located in South Jeolla Province, South Korea. From Seoul, it took us 5.5 hours of travel by bus! 

But it doesn’t end there...

From the Jindo bus stop, we then ate lunch at a nearby restaurant. 

Our lunch: Octopus Bibimbap! :)

 After we ate lunch, we took a taxi going to the Jeomam Dock. From Jeomam Dock, we took a ferry going to Jilli/Jinri Dock in Imjado. Total travel time to reach the island was almost 8 hours! It was quite a travel but it was worth it!

What we did while we’re on the island? Here are the things we did in Imjado.

1. Kayak 

For only KRW 15,000 per person, you can kayak all you want!

2. Imja Manatne Village 

Exploring the Imja Manatne Village was a healing experience. This small village makes you feel very calm and it makes you feel grounded because everything is so simple and nice.

3. Daegwang Haebyeon 

When in Imja, Daegwang Beach is not to be missed! You can ride a horse along the beach or just opt to walk and enjoy the sunset or a cup of coffee.

While in Imja Island, we stayed in the Imjado Manatne Village. Fun fact: “Imja” is a term of endearment equivalent to “Jagi” used during the old days. It’s still used by some of the elders up to this day. Also, “Manatne/만났네” means “met”. So, it somehow translates to meeting your loved one in this village.

We stayed here for an overnight. Our stay was pleasant. Since it’s a village, it was quite peaceful. We had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, enough number of futons and blankets. Towelettes and toiletry (toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner) were all included. Our room can accommodate up to 15 people for just 130,000 KRW.

Oh, and have I mentioned that the rooms are really affordable?
