Music and sunshine. . Life isn’t difficult anymore. Any American who truly has a difficult life today was either given a serious crap situation early on, or they made some really poor choices. For the vast majority of us Americans in the 21st century, life is easier than it has ever been for anyone in human history. I’ve written about this before, so today I’ll simply leave that point at its conclusion. . Even though life isn’t difficult, there is a new detrimental quality to life that our ancestors didn't have to deal with. Life in the 21st century is complicated. In fact, it is extremely complicated, so much so that this complexity is what is causing so many of the mental disorders we have today including ADD, depression, anxiety, addiction and so on. . When life is complicated, the brain, taking on that emotional burden, will break at its weakest point just like a physical predisposition will manifest when sleep and diet and stress routines get out of wack. The brain is similar to the body in this way, and the complexity of life is at the root of what is causing so much of the problems we see in people currently. . I’m not here to solve depression or anxiety or ADD for people. I think one day I will have the privilege to help with that on a large scale, but today I am here to simply advise finding grounding in the things that make life beautiful and joyful. If you can figure out what those are for you, and if you can focus on those then it will help you deal the complexity. . I’ve found that there are two basics things I need in life. They are music and sunshine. They are my simplicity. When they are in my life, then life feels pretty good, and besides a few humans who I really like too, I can’t think of much else I need besides them. Music and sunshine seem to be the key for me to peace and joy, and in comparison, everything else seems pretty trivial. . This is my favorite song to listen to in the sun.
