John 15:13 (NKJV) - Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
John 15:13 (NLT) - There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
.
The past tense of "to lie down" is "lay."
"Yesterday, I lay down and went to sleep."
This is correct.
"Yesterday, I lied down and went to sleep."
This is incorrect.
"I have lain on the bed today."
"I have laid on the bed today."
"I lie down."
"I lay down."
"I lay down the object."
"I lie down the object."
This is literally the only thing I have learned in my grammar class. Hardly anyone I know uses these verbs properly. And all of my grammar nazi friends, I'm not saying you didn't already know this, but if you didn't, you can now pretend to know more than just the difference between "their," "there," and "they're."
