“Clyde… I need to find Harley.” He says, voice firming with a hardness that was new to him.
Clyde jerked his head back a bit, as if a bit startled, a jitter of alertness rippling through the body made of sturdy muscle beneath that silvery bubble spotted coat. As if receiving an order, snorting with the acknowledgment.
He pawed a massive, fluffy hoof at the ground once and tossed his head in the direction of the trail before calmly turning to walk down the back pasture’s pathway. A dirt padded walk past a small cluster of trees to the hillside just before the woodland’s edge. And where the turtles tried not to wander too often, on account of it being the Jones’ matriarch’s gravesite.
Casey had told them, more than once, that after his grandma had died, she was buried beneath the old cherry tree out back, that grandpa had planted when they’d first gotten married.
“She loved that old tree.” He’d say, with a fondness to his voice, telling stories of his otherwise utterly whacky family history, and it was the few times Harley would join in to talk with her cousin with any real enthusiasm. She’d brighten like Mikey being promised pizza. Telling stories of when she and Casey were young children, playing in the shade of that same old tree.
And as the plume of its foliage, glorious and green in the summer night came into view, Clyde had trotted on ahead, up the slight incline of the hill to rest at the base of the tree— the polished marble of the gravestone shimmered lightly in the filtering of moonlight through the branches. A blink of white fabric nestled beside the headstone and Leo’s heart sank when Clyde pawed gently at the ground beside the curled figure, bending his neck to nudge the girl that rested in the grass beside her grandmother’s grave. ------- My entry for the @tmnt-ocxcanon-comp Angst Week! There's more but I figured i'd get this out there ;3 Vote HarLeo!
