So this is a bit controversial. Look, I cry every time I listen to the scene and I feel bad for Martin but I also don’t think what Elias said to him was necessarily bad. Martin already knew his mom hated him or at least he had an inkling that she did. That’s something Martin has had to deal with for a long time and yeah it’s got to hurt to know your own mother doesn’t love you, especially when you’ve sacrificed so much to help take care of her. For years, Martin has been a good son and he never knew why his mother hated him so he’s probably assumed that it was his fault, that somehow he wasn’t doing enough. Then, Elias reveals that it isn’t Martin’s fault and that it’s just because he looks exactly like his father so his mother is projecting her anger on him. I’m sure Elias used his powers to make it feel more intense and painful for Martin in the moment but, after some time, I hope Martin is able to take what Elias revealed and begin to realize that he doesn’t have to feel guilty for his broken relationship with his mom because it was not, and never was, his fault.
