Okay, this is much easier! I’ll do the Riders first, and then the dragons!

Hiccup:

He is the only surviving child his parents have ever had. Any babies that would’ve been his siblings were miscarriages or stillborns.

When he was little, he quickly learned how to understand and speak Dragonese, which earned him the respect and attention of many of Berk’s dragons, especially their queen the Red Death (as prefaced in a previous post, the Red Death is good and governs over the dragons of Berk.

However, his skill in the language caused him to be ostracised and picked on by many of the village kids, except for his friends.

When he was 10, he went off to the dragon’s side of the island alone to explore and just be by himself, and that’s when he saw an enormous sea dragon sleeping on the beach. He approached the dragon, and when it woke up he wasn’t afraid. He introduced himself, and he and the sea dragon (Merciless, the Green Death from the books) became friends fast. Hiccup soon started visiting Merciless regularly, sometimes bringing his lunch and a book with him so they could eat and talk together.

The first dragon to show interest in Hiccup as a Rider was a Changewing named Phantom. She was so forward in her pursuing of him that she tried to hypnotize him and make him agree to be her Rider. But a Rider’s Bond is not to be forced, and must be agreed upon by both sides. So when Hiccup broke her spell on him and refused, Phantom had no choice but to leave him be.

Hiccup met Sharpshot when he was learning how to train a dragon at Berk’s Dragon Academy, and he and his friends each picked out a Terrible Terror from a litter of six (Sharpshot, Sneaky, Pain, Iggy, Head and Butt). Sharpshot was quiet and painfully shy, but after some gentle coaxing from Hiccup, he eventually came out of his shell.

Hiccup first began to be sought out by riderless dragons when he turned 13, which is the youngest age Riders can be if they want a dragon. His line of suitors was so long, you could border the entirety of Berk with them. He couldn’t walk for ten minutes without being swarmed by a flock of fans, and Snotlout and the twins often tease him about his reluctance to choose a dragon.

After a while, Hiccup starts to think he’s better off without a dragon and begins hanging around Mildew, who has never bonded with a dragon and doesn’t want one, simply content to be with his sheep and farm.

Astrid:

Astrid first met Hiccup when they were 12 and he was cornered by some common bullies of his, and she came flying in, swinging her axe and yelling. They ran away as fast as they could while Astrid herded them off, and then turned to help Hiccup out of the dust. That was also the moment when Hiccup realized he liked strong, defiant girls.

Astrid’s family is very oriented to their women being strong and self-sufficient, as opposed to being simple housewives. Her mother impresses this fearless ideal onto her, but also reminds her that it’s not weak to be kind and help others either.

Camicazi (from the books) is Astrid’s adoptive older sister. It’s a very heart-wrenching story.

Unlike the other village girls, Astrid sees Hiccup’s uniqueness as something to admire rather than detest, and she is open to listening to his point of view.

She’s Hiccup’s “second-in-command” when it comes to their friend group/team, especially after Hiccup finally gets a dragon in Toothless.

Snotlout

Contrary to canon, Snotlout actually respects women and knows when to be humble.

Also contrary to canon, his father Spitelout actually cares about his son’s emotions and well-being. The incident when Snotlout met Hookfang happened when a series of events caused him to find himself being kicked to the ground by a group of older boys. Hookfang saw what was happening and rushed to defend him, chasing off the boys with his firejacket. He walked Snotlout home and when his parents saw their son’s bruised and battered state, Spitelout told his wife to take Adelaide (Snotlout’s sister from the books) to her room. Snotlout expected to be berated for looking so horrible in front of his father, but instead he got, “Who did this to you?” Snotlout explained the situation to Spitelout, ashamed of letting himself be beaten up and crying about it, but Spitelout didn’t care. His only focus was that someone had hurt his son, and he was ready to get even with them.

Snotlout and Hookfang love to do all kinds of tricks in the air, mostly with Hookfang’s firejacket on, and they do it mostly to show off how awesome of a team they are to their friends.

Snotlout is actually good friends with Fishlegs. They have very entertaining back-and-forths.

Due to them being half-cousins (their fathers are brothers from the same mother), Snotlout and Hiccup are very close, and Snotlout will pummel any meanie who dares even breathe in Hiccup’s direction.

Thanks to his cousin, Snotlout also understands some Dragonese but not enough to hold a seamless conversation.

Fishlegs

Fishlegs also knows Dragonese (Hiccup taught him most of what he knows), and he loves to practice with his Gronkle friends.

He and Meatlug were the first Dragon-Rider in their friend group to be bonded. It happened as soon as they were both 13.

Fishlegs and Meatlug frequent Dark Deep, Meatlug’s birthplace, to hang out with the Gronkles and Catastrophic Quakens (Tormentor is their best friend; RTTE fans, if you know you know).

He also likes to visit Dramillion Island, where he discovered his family’s connection with the dragons.

He and Heather are best friends, and he respects her decision to not become more than that (Heather is a lesbian. Change my mind).

Ruffnut and Tuffnut

Contrary to canon, the twins actually know when to take things seriously and not pick on their friends.

They frequently tease Hiccup for rejecting all his suitors, often exaggerating it purely for their inner thespian.

Tuffnut hates it when his sister tries to go after the next hottest boy she sees and he holds her back from jumping on them. Every. Time.

Ruffnut gets along great with Astrid. They have a whole “girls stick together” thing, especially when Heather’s around.

Tuffnut, Snotlout, Hiccup, and Fishlegs are the best bros.

Made this while writing Chapter 5 of TLNF. It fits perfectly with Toothless’ integration into Berk and making new friends. (If you can’t tell, Stormfly is the one singing.)

Finished the Riders! I went with their original designs because as much as I love the live action, it would feel like a crime if I didn’t stay true to the human characters’ designs. The only things I really changed slightly were the designs of the Deadly Nadder and Monstrous Nightmare, to make them a bit more easy on the eyes.

In my AU, these six have been friends since they were little. They go on all sorts of misadventures and shenanigans together (mostly caused by the twins), but they’ve stayed together as a team.

Astrid is the bold tomboy of the group, kind and pretty yet fierce when the situation calls for it. Fishlegs is the nerdy one, always with dragon info and his Dragon Cards on stand-by; he also tends to blurt out dragon facts when faced with danger by a dragon. Snotlout is cocky and confident as ever, but underneath all that pride is a heart of gold. And the twins are the twins—they’re either infuriating idiots or baffling genuises. There’s never and in-between.

And last but not least, there’s Hiccup. He’s the appointed leader of the group, mostly because he’s the son of the chief and kind of brought them all together in the first place. He’s very different from his friends, besides his high status; the thing that makes him stand out most is that he has yet to bond with a dragon. Not that he hasn’t tried, none of the individuals he’s met have been compatible with him. Most of the young, unbonded dragons on Berk only want Hiccup because he’s the chief’s son and can talk to dragons, or to win some sort of favor or benefit. But besides the status, being bonded to the chief’s son is no different from being bonded to any other Viking. Hiccup rejects each and every one of his suitors because of the above reasons, and thinks he may go his whole life dragonless.

I haven’t decided how many chapters TLNF will have (only Act 1 has been mapped out so far), but if anybody has a different idea on how I should tell Toothless’ story, please tell me so I can have more diverse options!

Finally finished the dragons! I tried to keep their appearances as close to the OG as possible while also making them somewhat resemble the live action versions.

Stormfly is the oldest of the group (17 years old) and is very friendly and loves to have fun. She can make anything into a game, especially chores. She’s badass and beautiful—the best kind of girl.

Meatlug is the baby of the group (13 years old) and the sweetest Gronkle ever. She loves to hang out with her friends and doesn’t like listening to them argue about anything, but she will fiercely defend her friends when push comes to shove. If you ever have any issues or problems you need to get off your chest, you can always count on Meatlug to listen.

Hookfang is the jock middle child (16 years old), but he deeply cares about his friends. He’s especially close with Meatlug, the Timon to her Pumbaa if you will. He’s not stupid, much unlike his Rider, and knows when a joke or a prank has gone too far and will go out of his way to fix things.

A while back, I drew Toothless in three ages, specifically the three ages he’s in during Act 1 of my AU. He’s seen mostly in the third age, and lemme tell you, it took FOREVER for me to get the spots right. I might just take them off alltogether.

In my HTTYD AU, Toothless was alone at six months old and raised by a Sand Wraith mother and a Sandbuster father, and two Sand Wraith sisters. He grew up on Desert Island thinking he was a mutated, melanistic Sand Wraith, until an incident occured that made him realize he wasn’t a Sand Wraith at all, but a dragon breed completely unknown by the residents of Desert Island.

After a long night of thinking, he set out on his own to find other dragons like him. He had no luck finding others, but he met lots of friendly dragons on his journey, whom included Snuffnut the Changewing, Bane the Boneknapper, and Bandit the Armorwing.

He found his way to Berk via information from an elder Screaming Death, who told him that the people of Berk were very knowledgable on dragons and might know what he was. And he was right.

“When you find Berk, young Toothless, you will find home.”
