hey my nephew is growing up in a very white community with almost exclusively culturally Christian influences so I'm trying to collect books (in English or bilingual) about other cultures and religions. if you have any childhood favorites or know newer ones, I'd move a recommendation
So as a small Indian child I was read to a lot and then a huge reader once I entered grade school. Unfort that means I do Not remember all the books I read haha. I will say the ones that resonated with me the most featured animal characters (and it was the same with disney movies) probs bc there were just Not many books featuring my culture or characters that looked like I did.
As far as books I can plug tho my cousin is an author and wrote a whole series of books about kids learning about things like patience and keeping your cool and theyre v whimsical and feature a wide cast of characters! Link
Also I was in a book store and saw a whole display of books abt ramadan and eid and thought that was adorable so theres def many more options out there now than when I was growing up!

When I first saw this call to action, I had a severe kneejerk reaction. I thought it was terrible, trying to stir shit and part of the anti movement, pushing for more censorship.
But I am *very* white, and I try to be better every day, so I sat down with myself and examined my feelings and read through the materials you all had up.
You've answered in depth how it NOT censorship and you're just holding Ao3 to THEIR OWN promises rather than asking Ao3 to go against their own ideals for which it was made. So I won't go into that.
What I will say, is that my rationalization of the kneejerk reaction was all based on made up ideas of what you were asking for. Because these issues don't affect me directly, because I'm not involved in the spaces where it's happened, I didn't know what you could possibly want changed, what you wanted to implement. And the things I made up that could be done *would* be censorship and *would* be going against what Ao3 was made for, so the big stumbling block was, shocker, actually reading what you had to say and what you wanted.
