It was late when the crackling from the radio he'd long since gifted to Ghost began to churn and warble with growing interference. He did not often see fit to use it to communicate with them; they had a tendency of finding him anyway and vice versa. But just then, it was picking up on some distinct unsettling interference. The radio itself glowed an almost sickly green, the buzzing likely becoming deafening.
Whether Ghost was there or not, Alastor would peel himself from the shadows of the room, nearly splintering the radio nearby with how loud the buzzing grew as he floundered to the ground and curled himself into a fetal position. He did not know why he felt compelled to retreat away from the hotel and into Ghost's home instead - something about them felt considerably less threatening than the fervent abuse he'd taken just a few moments before.
Eventually, the radio would go dead, the interference now stemming from the overlord himself.
This was fine.

Hi AU where Birchface IS the father of Mapleshade's kits and Appledusk is just a very close friend. But everything still goes wrong. Mapleshade takes her kits to the river so Appledusk can teach them how to swim, as neither of them want them to die the same way Birchface and Flowerpaw did, but they're caught and the Clan comes to the worst possible conclusion. Mapleshade tries to escape across the river when she's exiled, but the kits down. When she pleads for her old friend to shelter her, he blames her for their deaths and cruelly rejects her. I imagine the cats she kills are different though. She still kills Appledusk(perhaps deliberately, or maybe she targets Reedshine to make him feel her pain and he gets in the way), but I imagine she doesn't target Frecklewish(who knows those are her brother's kits- Larchkit looks EXACTLY like him) or Ravenwing(who doesn't receive a prophecy because the kits aren't half-clan). She probably targets whoever caught her in this AU and maybe goes after Oakstar.
This is very good. Yeah Oakstar is a definite. Maybe in this universe her former mentor Bloomheart could have caught her and then there could be some additional drama because of that. Bloomheart did turn on her in the novella after all .
I HATE that the Erins made a whole ass manga about how "No one is BORN evil! Our circumstances shape who we are!" and then turn around and say cats like Brokenstar and Tigerstar were Born That Way and nothing would have been different. Like Brokenstar was abused and spoiled(I am not blaming Lizardstripe for not wanting him and I sympathize with her on that. It sucks that she was forced into taking care of this kit that she didn't want when she didn't really want the ones she already had. I AM going to criticize her for abusing him considering in either PoT or OotS Jayfeather sees a memory of Yellowfang's where Lizardstripe is nipping him and depriving him of milk. It wasn't his fault that his father was a piece of shit who forced this onto her.) by his father, Tigerstar grew up in an environment where everyone talked about his kittypet dad and the medicine cat treated him like the Antichrist. Don't even get me STARTED on Thistleclaw's mentoring.
It deflects responsibility from the cats and society who played a part. True, their actions are theirs. Nothing excuses Brokenstar murdering babies or Tigerstar executing two apprentices. But to say "Oh there's nothing that could be done. They were just BORN like that. Guess nothing needs to change!" just. Makes me so angry.
