Agreed. A fairly nasty side effect of this marketing ploy is the representation of genders as largely segregated as well--so regular legos tend to be heavily skewed toward male minifigs in their sets, especially as they push more and more toward licensed properties, and thus reflect their biases. Lego Friends gender ratios look a lot like Barbie sets-sure there are a couple of males, but. Yeaaaah. A) this contributes to the perception that the toys belong to one group or the other and that these gorups are largely segregated from each other but b) the types of activities demonstrated in each tend to be highly gender normed. Also there tends to be less complex building in lego friends, from what I can tell.
