4. What detail in One Half Won’t Do are you really proud of?

(Thank you for at least narrowing that down to a single fic for me!)

So early on I decided that Leia, while sleeping by herself in Han’s bunk, discovers that he has painted a whole bunch of constellations in glow-in-the-dark paint in the space above his bunk, so you can lie there and stargaze. That started as a tiny detail that kept coming back and expanding throughout the fic, but one particular detail I’m proud of was that at one point Leia and Han are in the bunk together (platonically! Right?) and she recognizes a well-known constellation at it was seen from Alderaan and asks Han if it had always been there, or if he’d added it later. It turns out that after Yavin, when Leia and Evaan Verlaine disobeyed orders and stole a ship to go rescue a bunch of surviving Alderaanians from being hunted down by the Empire (as depicted in the Princess Leia comic), Han added that constellation to the group because he admired Leia’s boldness and guts in going to save her people, and because he still had some feelings about having jumped into what turned out to be Alderaan’s graveyard before they got trapped by the Death Star.

37. Promote one of your own “deep cut” fics (an underrated one, or one that never got as much traction as you think it deserves!). What do you like about it?

So I went to check out which of my fics had the fewest kudos, and one of the ones that surprised me was Tiny Umbrellas, a post-ROTJ happily together Han and Leia fic dealing with them attempting to get a relaxing beach vacation together (with the Falcon and the New Republic taking turns not entirely cooperating with that plan). What I love about it was that hopefully it shows Han and Leia in an established relationship able to have similar banter and flirtation as they did when they first got together, and having a loving and romantic dynamic even when they’re a bit grumpy with each other. Plus I very much enjoyed writing Leia’s rant (which owes a debt to The West Wing’s Lionel Tribby).
