Somewhere On Fullerton by Allister
I believe the first time I saw Allister was in 2004 when they came through town and played at the Water Street Music Hall. Ā I think I had only met bassist Scott Murphy at that point through a friend. Not sure if I had heard of them prior to that show but decided to check them out that night. They ended up putting on a really amazing set that night. Ā They came back through Rochester and Buffalo a bunch of times since then. Ā At a show in Buffalo I did a really interesting yet hilarious interview with guitarists Tim Rogner and Kyle Lewis (a video can be found on the website). Ā In 2007, the band decided to go on hiatus and did a "farewell" show out in their hometown Chicago so a friend of mine (who also had a magazine at the time) an I flew out just for the show. Ā It was a sad night for us both but little did we know 3 years later the band would get back together and record 2 more albums (Countdown To Nowhere in 2010 & Life Behind Machines in 2012). Ā Allister stopped in LA over the weekend to play a show with MxPx and Kris Roe (The Ataris) at the Glasshouse in Pomona. Ā Photos from that show can be found on the site. www.burningstars.net

I finally have something worthwhile to mention here so without any adieu, I am very excited to announce that the new Allister record, āLife Behind Machines,ā is complete.Ā Comprised of 11 songs, itās definitely the most dynamic and diverse record weāve made as a band.Ā Although itās taken quite awhile for everything to come together, I feel more than comfortable saying it has all been worth it.Ā We had a lot of fun over the last five months writing, rehearsing, and recording, and we did a little bit of experimenting with this record too, giving a small twist to the prototypical Allister sound.
We made sure to include a few standard three chord punk rock tunes, but we also added synthesizers, horns, and new-age electronica to a few tracks.Ā We certainly havenāt reinvented the wheel or anything, but Iād like to think weāve musically progressed as a band.Ā You canāt just keep churning out the same record over and over again or youāll quickly become dull and irrelevant.Ā And, letās be honest, as much as weāre in this because we love creating music for ourselves, itās silly to think that we wouldnāt want as many people as possible to hear it as well.Ā The record isnāt as crazy as it may sound though.Ā Itās still the same old Allister, just a little more mature, a little moreā¦modern.Ā The new stylings in no way detract from the quality of the songs; in fact, I think the entire record sounds even better than it would have otherwise.Ā But I guess the listener will ultimately be the one to decide, eh?Ā Iām proud of it though and thatās really all that matters.
We know the record will be released by Universal Japan at some point over the summer but we donāt actually have a specific release date.Ā Weāre hoping to have it out by the middle of July.Ā It will take some time to finish the artwork and get everything pressed but I feel pretty confident that we can get it all done relatively quickly.Ā As of now, weāre thinking about doing a digital only release in the US but weāll see what kind of demand there is for actual physical copies.Ā Once I have some definitive information on release dates and upcoming supporting shows Iāll be sure to post it here.Ā Thatās about all the news I have for the moment.Ā Hopefully soon I can once again tap into the stockpile of tour stories for your reading pleasure.Ā Until then, keep drinkingā¦.
