Spoilers for KFAM episode 93.

Emily and Tim have both had a character arc now in which someone took away their identity.

For Emily, it was Frickard taking advantage of her memory issues to rob her of her agency and try to shape her into a different person.

For Tim, it was Tim1000 literally taking his identity for about a year and then making both Tim and his family and friends doubt his validity as himself even after he got back.

And it is absolutely amazing to me the way that these characters handled it. (And they handled it in remarkably similar ways).

Neither character responded immediately to this. Neither one immediately fought it, because you can’t just come right out of the gate and fight something like that. It’s confusing and harmful when someone tries to take your ‘you’ away. Emily and Tim withdrew and lost themselves for a bit.

But eventually. Eventually they both grounded themselves. They found people who cared about them, and they found the person they were and the person they wanted to be, and they fought back, they reclaimed themselves and they fought against the person trying to take their identity away.

Emily’s “bye Greg” and Tim’s “I’m Tim Jensen” are both deeply iconic and really inspirational. As someone who has also dealt with people trying to invalidate or shout down my identity (albeit in different ways), it makes me feel really amazing to see these two people struggle with it and eventually come out on top.
