Both are sterile lion and tiger hybrids but the key difference is the parentage.
Ligers are born of Male Lions and Female Tigers.
Tigons are of Male Tigers and Female Lions.
Rumi's dad being the demon would make him a tiger and her mother the lion, ergo: Tigon not liger.
Another fun fact: Ligers dont possess the growth supression hormone so they tend to balloon in size and grow massively bigger than both parents. Tigons remain the same size or are smaller than the parents.
