It still surprises me that the TikTok fandom focused more on which kid to sexualize than on the message and rawness of the Netflix miniseries, I mean, I watched it thinking, “This is surely the most superficial, boring, and consumerist thing possible,” and then, like Holden Caulfield, I found myself saying it was made by a phony but honestly, I did see a lot of that rawness that I love from the book; the scenes of Piggy and Simon’s deaths left me with that feeling of emptiness and also, Simon’s death almost always affects me more because it marks their complete dehumanization but in the miniseries, the one that hit me hardest was Piggy’s, and having to watch Ralph dig him grave.
