Credit to @drshannyndc : #thyroidthursday This is one of my favorite graphics! It shows how many places thyroid dysfunction can come from. I’m going to take the next few Thursdays to go through the 4 questions you need to ask about your thyroid function: Question #1 PRODUCTION. Does your thyroid make enough hormone? This would be your classic high TSH low T4 situation. This is also the only situation that a thyroid medication actually works for. #synthroid and #levothyroxine are the synthetic version of T4. So, if your problem is that your body doesn’t make enough T4 giving it the synthetic version will help reduce symptoms. The natural answer to a production problem is to give your body more of the building blocks it needs to make T4. These building blocks include iodine, tyrosine, sodium, zinc, B vitamins, iron and vitamin D (plus other cofactors). PRODUCTION problems are the only markers a traditional medical doctor tests for. In doing so they miss all the other possible factors that happen after production of T4. It’s also important to note that T4 is the inactive “storage” hormone and in order for your body to use thyroid hormone effectively it needs to be converted to the active T3. This is the main reason most people don’t feel any difference on thyroid medication. The 3 other questions “they” forget to ask are: 2. CONVERSION 3. DESTRUCTION 4. INTERFERENCE Tune in next week to learn if your body is able to convert the inactive T4 hormone to the active T3 hormone and how you can support that naturally. https://www.instagram.com/p/BnsQzCTBny3/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1iinbxwr2e08k
