Common Kitchen Herbs
-and their magical uses, Part Two! Thyme!
Thyme is such a great herb to have on hand. It goes great on poultry with some butter, salt, pepper, rosemary, and sage, but it also has a very special history is worship, day to day life, and witchcraft! Here are a few of my favorite things about thyme.
The word thyme actually comes from the Greek meaning ‘fumigate’. It was used in ancient Greece in burning rituals, and it was thought to increase the energy and courage of soldiers and warriors from all over the world. Not only that, but far before western medicine was discovered, somewhere around 3,000BCE, it was used as an antiseptic!
Obligatory interjection that while I believe herbs do have a place in natural healing, if a doctor prescribes you medicine, please don’t substitute with herbal remedies. Lavender and honey for sore throats: antibiotics for infections.
Thyme is fantastic for personal growth as well. This is a book I really enjoy when it comes to kitchen magic, especially when it involves strong herbal notes. One page 220, there’s a bit about using Thyme as a personal developer! Burn some at your altar or in your room as you plan for the future, set your intentions and manifest them into existence. Remember, magic can only take you so far. Determination and perseverance will be the biggest help to your cause.
Some other things that thyme is good for!
Easing grief
Protecting your altar
Honoring the dead
Amplification of psychic powers
Amplification of bravery, patience, courage, healing, and love.
Remember, do your research, and always practice in a cleansed environment! I personally recommend juniper cleansing!
