One Scene Above the Storm
Featuring: Marvel Rivals x Production Team Member!Reader (ft. My OC and 9 new headcanon recruits)
Summary: In honor of the release of “The Abyss Awakens” in Marvel Rivals for July 11, 2025 and Thor being forced to be removed from the Marvel community, a headcanon season is in the works. It's called “Thunder Doomstrike.”
The release of The Abyss Awakens for Marvel Rivals was right around the corner—July 11, 2025. Excitement buzzed across the fandom, but a shadow hung over the celebration. One of Marvel's most beloved characters, Thor Odinson, was abruptly forced to be removed from the community. Fans were closs to mourning the loss. And yet… not all was lost.
Behind the scenes, you—an unsung but sharp-eyed member of the Thunder Doomstrike production team—had a different idea. One that sparked something electric.
You added Thor to the Thunder Doomstrike roster, pairing him with his ever-enigmatic brother, Loki Laufeyson.
Loki raised an eyebrow as he watched his brother quietly polish Mjölnir. “So, people really wanted you to stay in the Marvel community, huh, brother?”
Thor looked up with a nostalgic smile. “Yes. Even after I was forced to step away… they still believed in me.”
Before the silence could deepen, Storm—Ororo Munroe herself—appeared, placing a steady hand on Thor's shoulder.
“You're not alone, Thor,” she said warmly. “You're with us now. The Thunder Doomstrike roster. Think of this… as our return.”
Just then, a new presence crackled through the air. Ashley Magma—had already transformed. Her usual fiery energy now surged with electricity. Her outfit had morphed: yellow and black tones, storm glyphs glowing on her cheeks, and in her hand… a storm-forged sword. She now stood as Ashley Thunder.
“Well,” she said with a confident grin, “we ought to look good when we make our comeback.”
Thor, Loki, and Storm blinked, momentarily stunned. “Ashley?!” they asked in unison.
Loki tilted his head, intrigued. “What's with the… aesthetic?”
Ashley chuckled. “Long story. Just my Marvel Rivals skin.”
Thor stroked his beard in contemplation. “Then I shall name it…” he thought quickly with a bright suggestion. “Aha! Thunderstrike!”
Storm beamed. “Perfect. The yellow and black? Iconic.”
Ashley giggled, clearly touched. “Glad you like it.”
Before the team could bask further in the moment, a familiar voice swung into frame.
“Hey, guys! How's it swinging?” Spider-Man—Peter Parker in his MCU skin—landed with style. “Heard there's a Doomstrike production in the works.”
You gave him a thumbs-up. “Exactly. You're welcome to join the roster.”
Spidey grinned. “Thanks! My iron upgrade's gonna be wild—web-launchers, extra legs, you name it!” He squinted at Ashley. “Say, what's up with her?”
Loki smirked, arms crossed. “Relax, Spidey. It's her Thunderstrike skin. You're in your MCU gear, we're in standard Rivals fits.”
Spidey raised a brow. “Thunderstrike? As in… she got hit by lightning trying to pull a sword from a stone?”
Thor nodded solemnly. “That's exactly how she transformed. The lightning chose her.”
Storm added, “Fortunately, it wasn't lethal. That lightning sparked change, not damage.”
You stepped in with a knowing smile. “You nailed it. Ashley was reborn—her fire abilities converted into thunder. Her pistol's changed. Now it's all about the storm sword, tasing wristbands, and thunderball blasts.”
The conversation halted as The Winter Soldier—Bucky Barnes—appeared in his MCU skin.
“Energy balls?” he asked, folding his arms. “You sure they don't mess with stuff like my vibranium arm, Spidey's iron legs, or even the Mjölnir?”
Ashley shook her head. “Shockproof. All three of them. I tested it myself.”
Storm looked curious. “Even me?”
Ashley nodded. “Same story, Storm.”
Suddenly, someone appeared into view right behind Ashley. She yelped, dropping her sword.
“Did someone call our surname?” Invisible Woman—Sue Storm—grinned mischievously.
Hot on her heels came her brother, Human Torch—Johnny Storm, landing with his usual fiery flair.
“Don't be shy,” Human Torch teased. “We love the look.”
Ashley nervously chuckled. “I was just… talking to Ororo about metal conductivity and transformation lightning…”
You threw a wave in their direction. “Sue! Johnny! Great timing. Welcome to the roster!”
Invisible Woman giggled, rubbing the back of her head. “Didn't mean to scare you into dropping your sword.”
Ashley picked it up with a smile. “No harm done. But yeah, bit of a shock seeing me like this, huh?”
And then, almost ceremoniously, a golden gleam descended from the sky. Adam Warlock landed with grace, eyes radiant.
“Oh, did I forget to mention?” you added. “Adam's joining Thunder Doomstrike.”
Adam gave a slow nod. “That's right. And I'm feeling the hardcore of the lightning.”
Ashley raised her blade in salute. “Welcome to the roster, Adam.”
The Thunder Doomstrike roster is not yet complete. But united not just by lightning, but by resilience, reinvention, and a spark that couldn't be contained.
“But that's not all,” you announced with a grin, the production floor glowing with anticipation. “We've got three more joining the roster… along with nine new recruits.”
As if on cue, footsteps echoed across the chamber. Nebula emerged from the shadows, heading straight toward the Winter Soldier.
“Hello there, Bucky,” she said smoothly. “I feel like I'm made out of multiproof metal.”
Spidey, already warming up, perked up. “Sweet! Another metal-armed person! That's what I like about this experience!”
You raised your hand, ready to break the news with gravitas. “Alright, everyone, listen up! You'll be split into three groups. Group 1: standard Marvel Rivals skins. Group 2: MCU skins. Group 3: Thunderstrike skins. Don't worry, Ashley's not going solo—there's a surprise in store.”
Turning to the team, you called out the first assignments. “Thor, Loki, Storm, Sue, Johnny, Adam, and Nebula—head to Group 1.”
As the seven heroes made their way across the glowing stage floor, Spidey leaned toward the Winter Soldier with a wry smile.
“Looks like it's just me and you, Bucky.”
The Winter Soldier offered a nod. “Yeah. Just the two of us.”
“Not for long,” you teased, your voice filled with mystery. “Bucky, meet your recruits.”
Six figures strode through backlit silhouettes into view—familiar, formidable faces from the Thunderbolts. Taskmaster [Antonia Dreykov], Red Guardian [Alexei Shostakov], White Widow [Yelena Belova], Sentry [Bob Reynolds], U.S. Agent [John Walker], and Ghost [Ava Starr] stood proudly in their MCU skins.
“Hey Bucky!” Spidey called. “It's the Thunderbolts joining Thunder Doomstrike!”
“I know,” Bucky replied. “It's good to have them with us.”
Taskmaster smirked. “And guess what? I survived as well.”
“Well, good to have you, Antonia,” Sentry added with a nod.
White Widow's voice broke through as her eyes scanned the room. “Say… who's that girl standing there all alone?”
“She's not alone,” U.S. Agent replied. “She's got recruits coming her way.”
“We better find out who,” murmured Ghost.
Red Guardian chuckled. “Yes! The sound of volting in!”
You gave a dramatic countdown. “You got that right, Alexei. Now… prepare in 5… 4… 3… 2… 1…”
A wave of soft gasps filled the chamber as Spidey and the Thunderbolts slowly stepped forward into Group 2. Spotlights swirled above, then merged into one dazzling beam.
Thor tilted his head to the sky. “Such beautiful lightning.”
Loki's voice rang out beside him. “I wonder who will be entering the roster.”
From the massive light pillar, five silhouettes approached with poise and power.
“Who's that?” asked Adam, narrowing his golden eyes.
The lights surged, revealing the Guardians of the Galaxy—each in fully customized Thunderstrike skins: Rocket Raccoon, Gamora, Star-Lord [Peter Quill], Drax the Destroyer, and Groot.
You stepped forward, pride in your voice. “Ladies and gentlemen… the Guardians of the Galaxy in their Thunderstrike skins!”
“WOO! YEAH!” cheered Red Guardian, nearly toppling over in excitement. “That's what I call volting in!”
“They look... different,” Sentry observed. “Is it me, or does Groot have a full suit?”
From Group 1, Spidey answered, “That's him! Swoll Groot—from the Holiday Special and Vol. 3! And Drax? He's in a full suit too!”
Ashley beamed as the Guardians joined her in Group 3. “I knew you guys would show up. We're gonna rock these skins.”
Star-Lord grinned. “Didn't know your hair changed.”
Rocket blinked. “Same with your eyes.”
Drax leaned in. “And those cheeks! It's like you've got lightning war paint. I love it.”
“I am Groot!” came the proud rumble. (Translation: “And I like your outfit!”)
Gamora smiled, tapping Ashley's storm sword. “Now you've got a blade, too.”
Ashley twirled it gracefully. “Yeah, and I've got tasing wrists and an energy ball to match.”
But then your voice cut through the celebration—grim and urgent. “There's just one problem. Doctor Doom is coming—and you all need to stop him. Players will be able to choose your roles in battle. Get ready!”
The Guardians' expressions turned serious.
From off-screen, Group 1 shouted in unison, “WHAT?!”
In Group 2, the shock rippled outward.
“What the hell is happening?” White Widow asked.
“Doctor Doom?!” The Winter Soldier echoed.
Red Guardian groaned. “Oh come on!”
“This isn't looking good…” muttered U.S. Agent.
“Looks like it's going to be a tough one for the players,” said Ghost.
“I say we stop him!” declared Taskmaster.
Sentry nodded. “And his Doombots. Because we are… one world under Doom.”
You nodded. “Exactly. All 21 of you—player-selectable. The time is now. Prepare yourselves.”
All three groups struck their stances.
Thor roared, “First we thunder…”
Storm raised a hand, “Then we strike…”
The Winter Soldier smirked, locking and loading. “Let's thunderstrike!”
“YEAH!” yelled Red Guardian.
Ashley leaned toward Star-Lord. “You know what to do.”
He gave a slow nod. “Alright.” Then turned to his team. “Let's… volt…”
The five Guardians slammed their hands together for a fist bump.
“IN!!!” they shouted in unison.
From afar, Human Torch ignited in flame and ascended. “Flame on!”
Sentry blinked. “Did Groot just… speak human language?”
Red Guardian shrugged. “WHO CARES. LET'S GO!”
With that, the Thunder Doomstrike roster surged forward as one—flames, lightning, steel, and cosmic fury united—ready to take on Doom.
And you? You just smiled. “I love how the Guardians fist-bumped to volt in.”
