early in the night, we turned on the fancy floodlights they tethered to trees around the lake house playground. my brother and I were drunk on grey goose seabreezes I'd mixed and put in water bottles because free grey goose. all "the kids" -- ages 10-24 --played soccer on the illuminated horseshoe court in our christmas dinner clothes. we kept slipping in the muddy spots but I was the only one to go down hard, lace skirt and all, whatever forever, it felt great. we kept cursing but it was joyful cursing. one of my siblings snuck off to pack a bowl, left it for me under the mushroom statue.
