This was only a #threedayweek in my @hybridperformancemethod programming so I asked the ol' #SGH to make something up for me today. One of his prescribed lifts was #5x5 #paused #backsquats . What I loved about this was how it confirms what I have been #barking at my students about in their riding. Keep your #quads and #abductors engaged while lowering yourself out of the #rise #phase of the #risingtrot ! . If you struggle with flopping down in the #saddle, gripping with your knees or inner thighs, or struggling to stay in the motion or get out of the saddle quicker to influence the trot this is something to think about. If I squat down and do not keep my leg muscles engaged I will crumple like an accordion and never get back up, especially from a pause. But! If I keep my quads activated and drive my feet into the floor (stirrups!) I have the power to come back up with control and balance. I don't need my knees pinching inward to do it either. .
