When it comes to writing for 'Thomas Rewritten' I try to appeal to as many fans as possible, and that can be a blessing and a curse.
Some people like movies like 'Journey Beyond Sodor' or episodes from the Hit era where Thomas reverts to being cheeky or acts more like an innocent, kind child, so in order to appease them, my compromise is to set them earlier in the timeline (like a majority of Hit era episodes set in between 1951-53...
But then there's the people who arrange TV exclusive episodes in the 70's, in between the Wilbert and Christopher eras of the RWS. I completely understand their point of view but aside from the above fans and keeping things easier for me, there are some occasions where hints in canon contradict any possibility of certain movies/episodes being set post 'Tramway Engines'. For example Sir Gillemere having his three funnels in the same year a GER Decapod and a Hudswell Clarke work together in a steelworks...
For these reasons I am finding it difficult working out whether to have 'Calling All Engines' take place after or before 'Thomas and the Magic Railroad' (which according to some canon implications, previous cuts or visual references, is set in 1999).
