I am so proud of my Dandelion yard. Bees loving it. I even saw honey bees on the dead nettle pictured here. ... My yard here in Asheville is full of medicinal herbs. Violets, clover, plantain, burdock, yellow dock, and even some wild chard sprinkle across the grass. I would be harvesting an curing all of these wonders.. but alas.. I have a landlord in love with chemical sprays. The house has been treated at least 6x since I have been here. I often wake up to see him plodding about the corners of the yard with some noxious spray. He wears no mask, or gloves. One day my cat was vomiting everywhere, and I frequently get plagued with headaches. ... What is the obsession with grass? What is the hatred towards insects? ... Hornets were found disoriented crawling on the ground. I worry for the honey bees. My heart aches for the song birds that feast in the worms living in the toxic ground. The man himself is plagued with cancer... off to go spray the next house he trods off clueless of the war that his is waging. A chemical warfare, to an enemy that is but an illusion. To an enemy, that simply is life itself. ... I encourage you to go this year without the yard chemicals. See what natural animals come back. The first year will be messy. Then the lady bugs and prayingantis come back. The song birds and lizards. The bees and butterflies. The weeds may become flowers to your eyes. Maybe you will learn their medicine. Definitely you can enjoy the music, the ceaseless songs of birds and bees. ...
