Now, here we go, wrap up the trip in Tanah Batak, North Sumatera;
[ ] Take Early Morning Flight as Your Last Option, Unless You Are Very Very Very Organized Person
As long as I fly in any flight either in the early morning or late at night, I never have any problem with it, until my last flight to Medan. Less sleep, last minute packing, and hunting train ticket for Lebaran were three things that I blamed become the reason why I forgot to brought all my ID Card. The worst is, I realized it right in front of check in counter where I dropped my luggage. Damn! Instead of panic, I was saying this to my friends calmly, but deep down inside I did panic. After reporting my โstupidityโ, finally very kind Customer Service allowed me to flew with special letter ๐ *my inner was dancing happily like kids who got their candies* And I cant stop moacking at myself for this โunforgiven sinโ for an organize person like me ๐ Just for you to remember, keep your ID Card first whenever you change your daily walet to travel walet.
[ ] Importance; Ability Reading Maps
When you plan a road trip traveling with everyone, train yourself to read maps. As my spatial ability is under average than my other friends, thus it burden me become a good navigator for the driver. Therefore, what I can do was keep talking and cheering the driver up, so she wonโt fall asleep while driving ๐
[ ] Expected The Unexpected
Typical North Sumatera people is talking loadly either in casual conversation or mad. This knowledge I already know since ages. However, as Javanese people who never been to North Sumatera and met the real Sumateran people was got shock because in whatever situation they speak like angry. Even when they answer the question from very nice customer like us. Or in one fine morning, I suddenly bemused when I overheard someone in the hotel shouting like angry to her colleague to asking something. And surprisingly, her colleague shouting her back to confirmed her question. I was thinking they gonna fight, but minutes later after I can digest their conversation, I laughed myself. It was normal conversation they do ๐๐ช
[ ] Eat Local and Manortor (dance)
Traveling to other places is not complete without trying the local food they have in town. I am not typical foodie, but whenever I traveling, I will try at least one signature food they have to experience myself as a local. In Lake Toba, Parapat, North Sumatera, I ate grilled ikan tombura with sambal andaliman and sayur daun ubi tumbuk (pounded cassava leaves curry?) In the beginning I was reluctant with the grilled fish, but after I tasted the taste, I think I have to go back to North Sumatera for this dishes. Delish! โค๏ธ
The next day, we went to Samosir Island. To get this island we need to take a boat to cross the lake. It takes 30 minutes from Parapat. One of the most attarctive show in Samosir island is โSigale-galeโ puppet performance (please read my previous post). In order to enrich our cultural experiences, we took a part as a dancer in this performance. For me it was cool experience to perform in the public space and being seen by other tourist. Awesome! ๐๐ป
[ ] Best Traveling = Best Travelingmate
This is essential thing when you are traveling; travelingmate. Every place can be enjoyed by best company. Without right partner in crime, I am sure that your traveling will not memorable. Hence, choose with whom you can go crazy with. Do more silly thing and found yourself having fun. For me personaly, doing something silly while traveling with best travelingmate is crazy fun. Why not? ๐
Thatโs all a wrap up from my road trip in North Sumatera. If you wish to know the budget and the itinerary, please feel free to ask me.
Me, canโt wait for the next up coming adventure ๐
