We won’t stand any longer....
This article popped on my timeline about a TV reporter named Diletta Leota, who was shouted sexist remarks at by male soccer fans.
the comments are down below...
You see i thought long and hard about what i could say to each and every comment. I could call them out on their sexist bs, and get into arguments with them, and make them regret even saying what they said. Until i thought of a better idea. Social media is a very powerful tool that people use to troll and say hurtful things without ever really being punished for it. I took the time this morning to take screen shots of each comment. i wanted to show you all these horrible people and what their names were, i wanted them to understand what it feels like to be harassed.
But i soon realized i’m bigger than that. Instead i wanted to show all of you non-believers, that sexism is still loud and alive. These are the people who side with the rapist. These are the people who say that the way we dress excuses someone harassing us. These are the people who say boys will be boys. These are the people who say we should take someone catcalling us as a compliment.
I say people because a lot of them weren’t just men as many of you would probably expect. A lot of them were women. Our sisters. Our aunts. Our mothers. Our Grandmothers. Our Daughters. We as women our supposed to stick together. I don’t care what god you believe in, what the color of your skin is, hell, i don’t even care if you believe the earth is flat. This is all bigger than that. This effects us all. As Women. Our future daughters and granddaughters, will be ruined if we let this continue. We are more than pieces of meat for men to stare at and grope on the sidewalk. We are beautiful creatures, both in and out, yes, but beautiful things are treated with care and delicacy. Beautiful things aren’t supposed to be told how to be beautiful, they just are. Beautiful things are kept safe. Beautiful things are appreciated. Beautiful things are looked at and treated with respect.
To those who have ever said nasty and horrible things like this, would you say it to your mother? what about your daughter? Sister maybe? If you wouldn’t say to them, why say it to someone else? Don’t you realize that they are also someone’s daughter, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, cousin, best friend, etc.? This behavior is inexcusable and disgusting. I as a woman will not stand for it. Will you?
