ohhhh now that is a VERY interesting question.
the etymology of the word queer itself is fairly instructive here i think, given that its initial definition was that of "strange" or "peculiar" and was used as a pejorative against queer people, then was reclaimed by activists as a neutral/positive word.
so i'd expect a similar etymological train in dema for whatever word they do wind up using, that is, an adjective that already carries with it a definition that can be a pejorative when used with that sort of intention.
as for the banditos, i feel like they'd go with something maybe flower related, given that even here in the real world, queer folks have associations with green carnations, violets, pansies, and lavender. like, maybe the banditos have their own versions of flower language, with different flowers associated to different sorts of romantic connections, and those relationships themselves are simply named after the flowers you gift someone when asking them out.
