hi thank you for having me and im happy you asked. the truth is when you asked this question I actually received millions of small images in my head that struggled to form a full picture but i will explain this to the best of my ability. to put it shortly- yes i know dutch people and yes i have been to the netherlands, i lived there for six months. no i am not dutch.
i cannot remember really when my obsession started but i can say my dutchification started in September 2020 when someone ( @mikolasjosef ) showed me wie is de mol. It spiralled from there, due to reasons that I cannot explain, because next minute I was stalking their Spotify for Dutch music, buying a stupid dutch coin that I pretty much wear around my neck constantly and giggle when someone asks about, and buying 30 pack stroopwafels from costco. Maybe it’s because Jan Versteegh was lekker, but have accepted it and I am just here for the ride.
How else is someone meant to go from hardly thinking about a country to living in it to writing a play where a whole character is representative of your love for this country. There’s an origin story for sure, but I don’t quite know if there’s enough words in English to describe it.
