My genus brain:

Shuri was a good worker but a bad employee. T’Challa would have fired her if he didn’t think she’d sabotage her hand-built espresso machine on the way out. She was, unfortunately, invaluable. 

“No more free lattes,” T’Challa told his little sister in vain. 

“This is not a free latte,” Shuri said. “This is an experiment.”

“It looks like a latte that your friend is not paying for.

“It is a new blend she is taste testing.”

“It looks like the fourth latte for her this afternoon.”

“I am constantly innovating, Brother.”

T’Challa glanced over at the booth MJ had commandeered. With the impervious insouciance of teenagers, she installed herself at the booth like she lived there now and it was a private space. She and Shuri were working on their entry for the robotics competition, or at least that’s what Shuri said whenever T’Challa asked why she was going over to MJ’s again. The sad thing was, he knew it was the truth. 

“Just ask her out,” T’Challa said, “before you caffeinate her to death.”

“Ask Nakia out and I will,” Shuri replied.

T’Challa paused. “Tell MJ to enjoy her latte.”
